DOCUMENTUM ANNOUNCES DOCUMENTUM UNALINK

Linking Enterprise Document Management and Lotus Notes

ORLANDO, FL, January 22, 1996-Documentum, Inc. today announced Documentum
UnaLink, an integration of powerful enterprise document management with
the groupware capabilities of Lotus Notes. By extending Documentum's
functionality to Notes users, Documentum UnaLink provides a bridge between
the critical information processes that drive business and the group
collaboration and communication that feeds business. Documentum UnaLink is
the latest product in Documentum's strategy to integrate the Documentum
Enterprise Document Management System (EDMS) with popular desktop
applications, business-critical applications such as SAP's R/3, and World
Wide Web browsers (see Accelera announcement dated January 22, 1996).

Documentum UnaLink incorporates Notes users into the lifecycle of the
documents that drive key business processes such as developing new
products, assembling project proposals, or submitting new drugs for
approval. With Documentum UnaLink, users can access the robust
capabilities of the Documentum EDMS from their Notes desktops. These
capabilities, provided by Documentum's Docbase document repository,
include library services; personalized information delivery; virtual
document services; and document integrity through locking and automatic
synchronization of Notes databases and Docbases.

"Documentum UnaLink extends the Notes environment from a collaboration
database to a powerful front-end for users to access, communicate, and
process the company's most vital information, " said Jeffrey A. Miller,
president and CEO of Documentum, Inc. "Not only can users work within
their familiar Notes environment, but companies can more effectively
leverage their valuable intellectual capital by linking wider audiences of
knowledge workers into critical business processes."

Ronni Marshak, senior analyst at Patricia Seybold Computing Group, said,
"What the Documentum EDMS provides is very different from Lotus Notes, and
the products actually complement each other. With Documentum UnaLink,
Documentum is taking the opportunity to leverage the value of Notes'
collaborative features and provide true document management at a level
that doesn't exist with Notes."

Documentum UnaLink: Key Features and Functionality

UnaLink enables Notes users to participate in the entire lifecycle of a
business-critical document-from creation, review, and approval to assembly
and distribution-through the following functionality:

* Library Services. From their Notes desktops, users can author new
documents using the application of their choice and then check them into a
Docbase. Or, they can create new versions by reusing documents that
already exist in the Docbase. Documentum's version control protects
document integrity by ensuring that authors' edits are always saved and
that the latest information is used. Synchronization across multiple
Docbases and Notes databases allows for local access to the latest or
approved documents. Documentum UnaLink also protects document integrity
through a unique two- tiered locking mechanism which ensures that two
authors cannot edit the document concurrently.

* Personalized Information Delivery. Throughout the document's lifecycle,
users are presented with job-specific views of the information. For
example, authors and reviewers of documents use the work-in-process
versions, whereas document consumers only have access to the final
approved documents based on their profile or permission level.

* Virtual Document Services. Documentum's virtual document services provide
configuration management by automating the capture and assembly of
components in a business-critical document, such as the individual
graphics and text files that make up a product proposal. At any stage in
the document's lifecycle, the Virtual Document can be easily assembled
from current and approved document components and then released to
appropriate users across the enterprise. Users can create and contribute
to components of a Virtual Document, enabling the easy assembly of
enterprise information from hundreds of authors and multiple departments.

* Enterprise Repository. The Docbase is capable of storing enterprise
documents and their attributes securely at the terabyte level- making it
the ideal repository for the vast volumes of information that can be
re-used throughout a business process.

Pricing and Availability

UnaLink is scheduled to be available in April, 1996. Pricing is based on
named-user volume purchases. The product initially works in tandem with
the Documentum Server for Sun Solaris, and supports Notes servers for
Microsoft Windows NT and Notes Windows clients. Support for additional
operating systems, including HP/UX, AIX, and NT for the Documentum Server
and OS/2 and UNIX for the Notes server, will be added later this year.
