Tumbleweed Software Delivers Publishing Tools for Microsoft Network

REDWOOD CITY, CALIF., JAN. 2, 1996 - Tumbleweed Software Corporation today
introduced an OLE Control (OCX) object compatible with Microsoft's
Internet Studio electronic publishing tool and Microsoft's recently
announced set of Internet products, including Internet Explorer.
Tumbleweed's OCX, which will be available on the Microsoft Network
starting January 1996, enables users to view Envoy portable electronic
documents seamlessly on the Microsoft Network and from within Microsoft's
Internet Explorer.

Compatibility for Portable Documents in Internet Studio

Microsoft's Internet Studio, announced earlier in 1995, enables content
providers to create and distribute electronic content on the Microsoft
Network and over the Internet. Tumblweed's OCX greatly expands the types
of content that may be incorporated into an Internet Studio title or a web
page, to include virtually any electronic document regardless of the
application used to create it.

"The Envoy-compatible OCX utilizes Microsoft's industry-standard OLE
programming interface to provide integrated Envoy document viewing within
Microsoft's products," said Jeffrey Smith, president of Tumbleweed
Software Corporation. "The object complements Microsoft's Internet
publishing strategy, enabling Internet Studio content developers to easily
incorporate richly formatted Envoy documents as part of an Internet or MSN
title." Envoy documents, which preserve the visual fidelity of any
document in a compact, portable file format, can be created using the
Tumbleweed Publishing Essentials product in conjunction with any document
authoring or page layout software.

"Using Tumbleweed's OLE Control to incorporate Envoy electronic documents,
content developers can create rich and compelling MSN and Internet
titles," said Doug Henrich, director of Microsoft's Developer Relations
Group. "Tumbleweed has taken advantage of Microsoft's OLE-based Internet
Client Architecture to build a great component for developing Active
Content for the Internet and MSN. We are excited to see Tumbleweed's great
OLE Control and are looking forward to seeing many, many more."

Support for Internet Explorer

With the upcoming release of Internet Explorer, Tumbleweed will extend the
functionality of its OCX to support Internet Explorer's standards for
information encryption and document-level objects. This functionality will
be available when the next version of Internet Explorer is released.
