Tumbleweed Software Releases Envoy Plug-Ins for Netscape Navigator 2.0

Plug-Ins Available for Free Download from Tumbleweed Web Site

JANUARY 22, 1996 -- Tumbleweed Software Corporation today shipped the first
plug-in software components to provide seamless compatibility for portable
document publishing within Netscape Communications Corp.'s newly released
Netscape Navigator 2.0. The Envoy plug-ins enable users of the World Wide
Web to view Envoy documents directly within Netscape Navigator 2.0,
without requiring a separate Envoy Viewer. Novell's Envoy portable
document format, which preserves the visual formatting and content of any
electronic document, offers numerous advantages to Web publishers
including: ease of publishing, compatibility with virtually all document
types and fonts, and highly compressed file sizes.

"The release of Tumbleweed's Envoy plug-ins for Netscape Navigator
represents a milestone in Internet publishing," said Jeffrey Smith,
President, Tumbleweed Software Corporation. " In contrast to HTML
publishing, Envoy permits you to publish any document on the World Wide
Web simply by printing from any application. In addtion, Envoy supports
all types of documents (including complex documents, such as those from
AutoCAD or Quark Xpress), advanced font embedding with Bitstream's TrueDoc
technology, and significantly smaller document sizes for faster
downloading."

Pricing and Availability

The plug-in components are currently available for free download from
Tumbleweed Software at http://www.tumbleweed.com. The current versions are
compatible with the Windows 3.1, Windows 95, Macintosh 68K, and Power
Macintosh versions of Netscape Navigator 2.0. For Web publishers,
Tumbleweed Software also offers Tumbleweed Publishing Essentials, a
comprehensive collection of tools for publishing documents electronically
in Novell's Envoy document format. Tumbleweed Publishing Essentials
includes support for batch conversion of PostScript and other complex
formats, Bitstream's TrueDoc font embedding technology, full-text indexing
and search, and advanced tools for automating the process of authoring
hypertext links within Envoy documents. Tumbleweed Publishing Essentials
lists for $695 and is available from Tumbleweed Software and authorized
resellers.

Future Versions Underway

Tumbleweed Software also announced that it has begun development of future
versions of Netscape-compatible plug-ins that will continue to extend the
Envoy's functionality on the World Wide Web. Future plug-ins will support
multithreaded object-level downloading and rendering of Envoy documents,
integration of Tumbleweed's Rich Text Retrieval search engine, and
advanced hypertext navigation features. Release of the next versions of
Envoy plug-ins is slated for Q2 of this year.
