"E-Mail VirusWall" protects Corporates from E-Mail-Borne Viruses Including
New Macro Viruses

Cupertino, CA, Feb. 16, 1996 - Trend Micro Devices announced a new
anti-virus product designed to protect corporate networks from the
increasing threat of viruses transmitted by Internet e-mail: E-Mail
VirusWall.

Designed to complement anti-hacker firewalls, E- Mail VirusWall scans all
incoming and outgoing mail through the Internet gateway to ensure a virus
free environment in the corporate LAN (Local Area Network). VirusWall uses
award-winning Trend Technology to detect thousands of viruses, including
the newest macro viruses spread through document and spreadsheet files --
some of the most frequent mail attachments in corporations.

"E-Mail VirusWall works like a metal detector at airports." Says Daniel
Chiang, president of Trend. "It scans an ever-flowing data stream for
dangerous items, alerting the people in charge when it detects something.
This is a significant increase in security because an unmonitored e-mail
data stream is like an airport loading gate without a metal detector:
people carry guns, explosives of bombs onto the plane without any chance
of being detected. Now with Trend's E-Mail VirusWall, viruses, bombs,
worms and other damage-causing programs are stopped cold at the gate. It
makes corporate computing much safer."

E-Mail VirusWall, an all-software product, works on UNIX platforms and
operating systems, which dominate the market for Internet gateways and
servers. It is a complete product, providing both real-time scanning and
detection with one-click virus pattern updates. Scanning occurs in
milliseconds at the Simple Mail Transfer Protocol (SMTP) server, before
files enter the internal network where they are encrypted by various mail
systems. E-Mail VirusWall notifies both the system administrator and
e-mail recipient when a virus is detected. When no virus is found, E-Mail
VirusWall can be configured to insert a "safe stamp" message informing the
user that the e-mail was scanned and no virus was found. E-Mail VirusWall
works with compressed Internet encoded formats, including ZIP, UUENCODE,
and MIME.

Trend will unveil a beta at E-Mail World, San Jose Feb. 20 (Booth 954) and
plans to ship the Solaris version of the product March 30. A Windows NT
version will be available on April 30.

E-Mail VirusWall is part of a suite of products developed by Trend to make
information sharing on the Internet safer for business and corporations.
These products include:

PC-CILLIN 95 -- (jointly developed with TouchStone Software), a Windows 95
workstation anti-virus program that scans Internet E-Mail attachments.
InterScan VirusWall-- an all-software product that also resides on the
Internet gateway. It scans E-Mail, FTP, and World Wide Web traffic.
(E-Mail VirusWall owners may upgrade to InterScan VirusWall for a fee.)

Technology background:

Trend's award-winning virus detection engine checks for thousands of known
viruses and emulates execution of suspicious files causing stealth and
polymorphic viruses to reveal themselves. Trend's detection technology won
three separate Editors Choice awards from Network Computing Magazine in
1995, detecting more viruses than rival products form Symantec, McAfee and
Dr. Solomon, among others. Trend Technology is in the best-selling LANDesk
Virus Protect sold by Intel and integrated into Novell's ManageWise, a
network management utility.

Trend maintains a full-time Anti-Virus Support Center at
http://www.antivirus.com, providing the latest updates on products and
viruses, including the first Windows 95 virus, Boza.

Pricing:

 $700 for 50-users (per server)

 $10,000 for unlimited users

Site licenses are available on a per-server basis for large corporations
