GUPTA TO SUPPORT STARWARE DATA ACCESS TOOL

Popular application development tools leverage StarSQL for AS/400 access

BERKELEY, CALIF., FEB. 13, 1996 - StarWare Connectivity Software today
announced that Gupta Corporation, a leading vendor of client/server
development tools and databases, will support StarWare's StarSQL data
access product for fast, seamless, and secure connections to remote IBM
AS/400 host databases. Under the terms of a joint marketing agreement,
Gupta will recommend and support StarSQL for use with Gupta's SQLWindows
product line, as well as its upcoming Centura product family.

Gupta and StarWare will jointly optimize StarSQL performance and ease of
installation for users of Gupta's SQLWindows and Centura products. Working
in cooperation with Gupta field offices, StarWare will provide technical
support to Gupta customers worldwide. For its part, Gupta will provide
marketing support and product features to embed and support StarSQL
functionality.

"Many of Gupta's customers have a strong need to integrate their
applications with AS/400 systems," said Matt Miller, vice president of
marketing at Gupta. "We believe StarSQL provides a rapid and elegant means
to achieve AS/400 data access, while still ensuring data security and
integrity. When used in conjunction with Gupta's SQLWindows or Centura
products, StarSQL enables developers to reduce their backlog while they
create high-quality, reliable client/server systems."

StarWare's StarSQL is a software driver that enables any ODBC-compliant
Windows-based program to access data directly from IBM midrange, mainframe
and UNIX systems, which currently store more than 70 percent of corporate
databases. Leveraging IBM's Distributed Relational Database Architecture
(DRDA) technology to request host data, StarSQL is a client-only package
that requires no additional third party software or maintenance on the
host system. StarSQL allows users to bring record-by-record information
from IBM databases into Windows-based applications without having to leave
their application, and without having to employ terminal emulation
technology. At the same time, the new driver enables programmers to
develop transparent client/server applications for IBM data access, using
tools such as Gupta SQLWindows and Centura.

"Gupta has an excellent reputation for innovation in client/server tools
for good reason: SQLWindows helps developers build competitive- edge
applications faster and with fewer errors," said Jim Mullen, president of
StarWare. "The company's renewed focus on the enterprise- wide
client/server market makes Gupta the ideal partner for building and
delivering powerful, next-generation database access solutions."
