HDS Network Systems, Inc. Licenses Internet Technologies from Spyglass for
Use in New Line of Low-Cost Network Computers

HDS will offer combined Intranet and Internet capabilities for less than
$750

KING OF PRUSSIA, Pa., February 8, 1996 -- HDS Network Systems, Inc., a
leading international supplier of software and systems for multivendor,
multimedia networks, today announced it has licensed a broad range of
technologies from Web component supplier, Spyglass, Inc., for a new line
of network computers, to be introduced in early 1996, priced at less than
$750. The licensed technologies will allow HDS users to more easily access
and use any type of data on either internal networks (the Intranet) or the
Internet, with built-in security features at the user, application, and
transmission levels.

The licensed technologies include the Spyglass Mosaic Web client for Web
browsing, RSA's encryption technologies for secure applications such as
credit card processing, and Microsoft Visual Basicscript for applications
development. In January, HDS was the first company to license Java
technology from Sun Microsystems, Inc. for use in a low-cost line of
computers which will enable users to take advantage of the portability and
multimedia features of Java-based applications.

"Low cost doesn't mean low power," stated Michael Kantrowitz, HDS's
executive vice president. "Our basic network computer, priced at $750,
will give users much more than the Internet `appliances' being touted in
the market today. In less than a year, the Internet, World-Wide Web, and
Java have totally changed the nature of networking. The challenge for
users is how to benefit from this exciting change without paying
exorbitant prices, creating nightmares in network management, or buying
systems that will be old news in a year. HDS can provide low-cost systems
that are manageable, secure, and never outdated."

Unlike other Internet access devices, HDS's new line of network computers
will offer much more than just access to the Internet. In addition to
Internet capabilities, the new systems will offer full multimedia features
with video teleconferencing over both enterprise networks and the
Internet, as well as access to data residing on legacy systems, including
mainframes, midrange computers and personal computers. Users will be able
to choose the amount of power, type of network access, and level of
security they want at both the client and server level, integrating
Intranet and Internet resources as needed -- at a much lower cost than
comparable personal computer configurations. In addition, HDS network
computers will be much easier to use and manage than today's PCs,
significantly reducing both the complexity and expense of administration.

"We're pleased to license Spyglass technologies to HDS Network Systems, who
is a recognized leader in multimedia desktop solutions," said Marc Miller,
executive vice president of marketing for Spyglass. "Both companies are
committed to enabling users to take full advantage of all the Internet has
to offer, today and in the future. Providing a low-cost system such as
that of HDS for Internet access will be a big step forward."
