Online Poll Asks Consumers To Select Favorite Software Titles of 1995

Ballot for SPA Codie Award Finalists Posted on Prodigy-Created Web Site

WASHINGTON, D.C., February 22, 1996 - The Software Publishers Association
(SPA) today announced the launch of a special online poll on Prodigy,
designed to determine consumers' favorite software titles of 1995. The
results of this "people's choice" poll, which asks consumers to select one
of the five finalists in each category, will be released in advance of
SPA's official 11th Annual Excellence in Software Awards (the Codies). The
1996 Codie Awards -- the software industry's equivalent to the Oscars --
will be presented to the winners on March 4 in San Francisco, reflecting
the voting of SPA's 1,200 members.

Beginning today, Prodigy members can find out which software products are
finalists in nine Codie categories and then choose their favorites by
completing SPA's online ballot. The ballot is accessible via Prodigy at:
http://babs.prodigy.com/live/support/feedback/codie.htm. The poll will be
active until February 27 and results will be posted on Prodigy on February
29.

Among the many categories, Prodigy users are asked to choose their winners
for Best Action/Arcade Software Program, Best Adventure/Role Playing
Software, Best Consumer Software Program, Best Home Learning Program For
Adults, Best Home Learning Program For Adolescents, Best Home Learning
Program For Children, Best Home Productivity Software Program, Best Sports
Software and Best Strategy Software.

"We believe consumers who are avid computer users will welcome the
opportunity to cast their votes for the best software released in 1995,"
said Ken Wasch, SPA president. "We trust they feel just as strongly about
voting for the Codie Awards as our SPA members, and, with Prodigy's help,
SPA offers them the opportunity to be heard."

For additional consumer feedback on more than 1,000 CD-ROM titles, Prodigy
members can also visit the CD-ROM Advisor area on the Prodigy service.

SPA's focus is on companies developing and publishing software applications
and interactive content. SPA is the leading trade association of the
international desktop software industry, representing the leading
publishers as well as many start-up firms in the business, consumer and
education markets. Its 1,200 members account for 90 percent of the sales
of the U.S. packaged software industry. SPA is an international
organization with offices both in the United States and Europe. SPA press
releases are available at the SPA Web site (www.spa.org) and from SPA's
faxback service at (800) 637-6823.
