SPA Expands Latin American Anti-Piracy Efforts

Hires In-House Attorney to Coordinate Anti-Piracy Programs in Latin
America

WASHINGTON, D.C., Feb. 14, 1996 -- The Software Publishers Association
(SPA) welcomes Rodolfo Orjales as head of its anti-piracy campaigns in
Latin America. Orjales joined SPA on Feb. 1, 1996, in the new position of
director of Latin American anti-piracy. He will concentrate his efforts on
Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Venezuela, Chile and Colombia but will also
oversee educational efforts in an additional 11 Latin American countries.

Prior to joining SPA, Orjales was an assistant U.S. attorney from the U.S.
Attorney's Office in San Francisco, where he specialized in complex
whitecollar fraud cases, handled counterfeit investigations and worked
closely with F.B.I. and U.S. Customs officials to identify the sources of
such counterfeits. Before that, he was a prosecutor in the Manhattan
district attorney's office, where he also handled fraud cases. Orjales is
fluent in Spanish and has trained and lectured to judges and other law
enforcement officials throughout Latin America. Orjales received his juris
doctrate from Syracuse University College of Law and his undergraduate
degree from Santa Clara University.

Orjales joins Sandra Sellers, SPA vice president of intellectual property
education and enforcement, and Elisha Lawrence, SPA director of
asia/pacific anti-piracy, in determining strategy and coordinating local
counsel and public relations firms to expand SPA's anti-piracy education
and enforcement efforts worldwide.

Recently, SPA received a grant from the U.S. Department of Commerce to
offer the Certified Software Manager (CSM) course in 17 Latin American
countries; the courses will be given between March and June 1996. The CSM
course is a day-long course in software asset management, which already
has been taught throughout North America and in several countries abroad,
including Mexico and Colombia.

SPA's anti-piracy hotline, (800) 388-7478 in the United States and (525)
250-2567 in Mexico, accepts calls reporting software violations and
requests for information and materials. SPA may also be contacted on the
Internet at piracy@spa.org.

SPA's focus is on companies developing and publishing software applications
and interactive content. SPA is the leading trade association of the
desktop software industry, representing the leading publishers as well as
many start-up firms in the business, consumer and education markets. Its
1,200 members account for 90 percent of the sales of the U.S. packaged
software industry. SPA is an international organization with offices both
in the United States and Europe. SPA press releases are available through
CompuServe (GO:SPAFORUM), on SPA's Web site at http://www.spa.org or
through Fax-on-Demand at (800) 637-6823.
