SPA's Certified Software Manager Seminar: Ensure a Software Legal
Organization

2,000 Computer Professionals Can't be Wrong

Washington, D.C., Feb. 12, 1996 - In its continuing efforts to fight
software piracy, the Software Publishers Association (SPA) announced today
its fourth tour of the Certified Software Manager (CSM) seminar. The CSM
seminar is the first and only seminar enabling computer software
professionals, in a variety of industries nationwide, to become software
legal without threat of litigation. The one-day course is designed to
complement other SPA anti-piracy tools such as SPA's Self-Audit Kit and
Software Management guide, by offering detailed information within a
total-immersion, training seminar. The 18-city CSM tour begins April 8 in
Washington, D.C., and ends May 17 in Seattle, Wash.

Designed for microcomputer, MIS/DP, end user computing and department
managers; computer specialists, services and tech support personnel;
auditors; legal counsel; and others responsible for software compliance,
the CSM seminar stresses fundamental issues of software licensing and
compliance. The seminar also teaches skills to help companies optimize
their software budgets through prudent use of asset resources to increase
productivity, lower costs and create a competitive edge for participating
organizations.

A CSM learns the skills needed to diagnose and solve an organization's
software management problems. The CSM seminar's professional instructors
help demystify copyright law, clarify the ambiguity of license agreements,
pinpoint best-cost licensing options and develop and implement a workable
and effective software management plan. The seminar also untangles details
of the self-audit process and addresses disaster recovery, network
security and viruses. By applying the skills taught in the seminar, CSMs
ensure their organizations remain software legal and avoid the penalties
resulting from software license mismanagement.

CSM course material includes a comprehensive student manual with 13
reference appendices to provide quick answers to common questions about
software compliance. Also included in the registration fee is SPAudit
software, an anti-piracy video and additional educational materials, which
recommend corporate policies and inform about copyright law. The
professional designation Certified Software Manager is granted to all
individuals who successfully complete the seminar and pass its exam.

The CSM registration fee is $395, which includes the cost of instruction,
course materials and lunch; each additional attendee from the same
organization may register for $295. For more information contact Becky
Howland, CSM coordinator, at bhowland@spa.org or (202) 452-1600, ext.
