SILICON GRAPHICS ESTABLISHES AUTHORIZED RENTAL PROGRAM

GE CAPITAL TMS AND ELECTRO RENT ANNOUNCED AS AUTHORIZED RENTAL COMPANIES

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CALIFORNIA (FEBRUARY 1, 1996) -- Silicon Graphics, Inc.
(NYSE: SGI) today announced an authorized rental program, which will
provide the company's end-user customers short-term access to Silicon
Graphics' popular Indy and Indigo2 desktop workstations and CHALLENGE S
network resource servers. The company has authorized Electro Rent
Corporation and the Computer Rental Services Division of GE Capital
Technology Management Services (TMS) as its first "Authorized Rental
Companies."

"Workstation rentals are particularly effective for customers who require
proof-of-concept before making large purchasing decisions," said Lou
Gennaro, vice president, Silicon Graphics U.S. Field Operations. "Silicon
Graphics is very excited to introduce the end-user program as provided by
GE Capital TMS and Electro Rent, companies with strong reputations for
providing an excellent combination of service, support and product
selection."

Both GE Capital TMS and Electro Rent are now authorized to offer Silicon
Graphics' Indy and Indigo2 desktop workstations and CHALLENGE S network
resource servers throughout the United States. "We've already seen a
tremendous interest in Silicon Graphics' workstations from our existing
customers for computer-aided design, animation applications and designing
websites," said Rick Bernosky, vice president of product management for
Electro Rent.

To ensure that customers who rent Silicon Graphics systems are fully
supported, the company requires that all units rented by Silicon Graphics
Authorized Rental Companies include support. "The UNIX workstation rental
market demands unique levels of support for optimal customer
satisfaction," said Rick Doud, vice president of business ventures for
Computer Rental Services at GE Capital TMS. "Silicon Graphics demonstrates
its commitment to end-user customers by requiring that its authorized
rental companies provide effective support."

Silicon Graphics systems can be rented for up to twelve months at rates
determined by the Authorized Rental Companies. Electro Rent operates 21
support/service centers throughout the United States and Canada and GE
Capital TMS manages rental centers in 31 major cities in the United
States. Customers interested in renting Silicon Graphics systems can
