New Web Site Focuses on Internet Resources for Scientists and Engineers

FEATURES 1996 BEST OF THE NET: SCIENCE & ENGINEERING

Worcester, MA (February 5, 1996). Soliloquess Communications today
announced the debut of a new site on the World Wide Web devoted to finding
and reviewing Internet resources for scientists and engineers. Located at
htip://www.senn.com/, the Science & Engineering Network News site provides
instant access to news, reviews, and tutorials of science and engineering
resources available on the Internet and related bulletin boards. Resources
covered include World Wide Web pages, FTP and Telnet sites, electronic
mailing lists, USENET newsgroups, FAQs, and more.

"The Internet is growing at a phenomenal pace and new sites are coming
online at breathtaking speed, " stated Shari Worthington, president of
Soliloquess. "For instance, in the trade press alone, dozens of technical
magazines now have Web sites that are increasingly valuable, packed as
they are with industry news. The biggest problem cybernauts face is
determining which online information is worthwhile and which is not. But
traditional online search services and directory-style listings provide
almost no detail about the quality of a site. So the Science & Engineering
Network News Web site will serve as a starting point to guide users to the
most valuable online journals, software archives, image databases, and
more...all focused on science and engineering," she continued.

The SENN Web site is divided into two sections. For the general public, the
site contains hyperlinks to a selection of reviewed sites including:
"NetScope News", mini reviews of the newest online resources; "The
Reference List", editors' picks for the top sites across multiple
disciplines; a full "Sample Issue" of the regular, monthly journal Science
& Engineering Network News; as well as an article index, tips and tidbits
for new cybernauts, and a description of "The SENN Scale", the 10 point
scale used to rate all sites that are reviewed. For subscribers to Science
& Engineering Network News, the Web site also provides instant access to
the latest issue of SENN, all back issues of the publication, and more
detailed indices.

Along with the announcement of the SENN Web site, the company announced the
first winners in its 1996 Best of the Net: Science & Engineering
competition. After reviewing thousands of technical sites across the
Internet, the editors of SENN chose the best examples of Internet sites in
10 major categories. Each site was reviewed in detail and evaluated
according to the following criteria: online content, organization of the
material, ease of use, types of access, links to other sites, and
currency. Competition categories and winners in the first round include:

* Best Educational Site-SciEd: Science & Mathematics Education Resources,
http://wwwhpec.astro.washington.edu/scied/science.html; rating 8.5 out of
10.0.
