DATA RACE TO SHIP MACHNET MULTI-POINT BRIDGE

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- January 30, 1996 - DATA RACE (NASDAQ: RACE) announced
at ComNet today that it will ship its MACHNET Multi- Point Bridge
integrated module for the DATA RACE MACH DS plus multiplexer product in
the first quarter. The MACHNET Multi-Point Bridge (selling at US$1395
list) adds the ability to support network access to single or multiple
remote networks to the innovative MACH DS plus Voice, Data, LAN, and Fax
multiplexers. The MACH DS plus multiplexer can support multiple protocols
and communication data transmission technologies from a single VariLink
chassis system (uses interchangeable rear-panel connector adapters to
provide the interface between system cards and the user's environment).
The bridge mounts internally and is fully compatible with existing MACH DS
plus networks, as well as previous point-to-point MACHNET bridges, and
includes a connector adapter and cables.

The new MACHNET Multi-Point Bridge adds greater processing power and higher
speeds than its DATA RACE predecessors. With the MACHNET Multi-Point
Bridge, information systems and network managers now have a powerful
ability to provide Ethernet LAN access to multiple remote offices through
one communications module over single or multiple WAN connections.
Customers can combine multiple bridge functionality in one interface card,
saving the cost of equipment, cabling, and maintenance. Remote sites that
use e-mail, databases, or other client- server technologies will welcome
direct access to central office Ethernet LANs.

BENEFITS OF MODULAR ARCHITECTURE

The modular architecture of the DATA RACE MACH DS plus products enable
customers to protect their investment in data communications equipment,
while still being able to implement technological innovations quickly.
Each DATA RACE module incorporates an independent processor to support its
functions and speeds. Customers who want to upgrade for new technology
need not replace a whole system, but just plug in a new module.

"The DATA RACE solution, featuring modularity, low cost, and ready
upgradability, is the most cost-effective protection your communications
system investment can have," said Tim Eargle, DATA RACE director of
marketing for network products. "Organizations that need multi- point
bridge technologies nowor anticipate them in the futurecan install a MACH
DS plus system today and add more modules later. Because DATA RACE
products support growth, customers can benefit from the low costs of
building, expanding, and maintaining DATA RACE networks. They become
virtually Future-Proof."

FEATURES AND BENEFITS OF THE MACHNET MULTI-POINT BRIDGE FEATURE MODULE:

   Multiple remote LAN connections
   Transparent 802.3 MAC layer bridging
   Bridging of all Ethernet protocols
   Spanning Tree (802.1D) support
   Self-learning address filtering
10baseT, AUI, and optional 10base2 interface connections (802.3)
Ethernet traffic compression of up to 4:1
Dynamic bandwidth allocation shares composite link bandwidth
     with other traffic
Link compatibility with existing MACHNET LAN Bridges
Higher performance chip set than previous point-to-point bridge

REMOTE ACCESS TO THE CORPORATE ENVIRONMENT

W. B. Barker, the company's president and CEO, observes, "One particular
market force is driving communications technology today: the need for
remote access to the corporate environment." DATA RACE offers two
principal product lines that address this market. The first includes
modular, upgradable, multi-media multiplexers, with features such as the
MACHNET Multi-Point Bridge, for connecting branch offices with
headquarters systems. The second product line comprises custom modems for
notebook computersmodems that support data, voice, Fax, and even
speakerphones and answering machines. A third market segment,
telecommuting, is growing at a rapid rate. "The needs of the telecommuters
marry the capabilities we are delivering to the other two segments. DATA
RACE serves these markets with innovative solutions that are flexible,
cost- effective, and," Barker emphasizes, "Future-Proof."
