DATA RACE CHAMPIONS COMPRESSED VOICE OVER FRAME RELAY TRANSMISSIONS

WASHINGTON, D.C. -- January 30, 1996 - DATA RACE (NASDAQ: RACE) announced
today its ongoing support of Frame Relay communications. DATA RACE
multiplexers readily support external Frame Relay Access Devices (FRADs)
available from a variety of manufacturers. DATA RACE customers can take
full advantage of both the increased speed and cost savings available
through this new carrier communications service.

Frame Relay is a communications service which provides a low-cost method of
transmitting data at high speeds (56Kbps or T1) to multiple destinations
over a single link. Competitive pricing from Frame Relay carriers, such as
AT&T, MCI, and Sprint, make Frame Relay an attractive medium for many
companies with remote networking needs.

Frame Relay, as designed and implemented via DATA RACE multiplexer
technology, supports compressed voice transmission, along with data and
LAN traffic, to provide maximum benefits and savings to businesses for
which integrated voice constitutes a major portion of their networking
needs. "Our customers continue to benefit from the cost savings of
transmitting compressed voice along with data and LAN traffic over Frame
Relay networks. Frame Relay popularity is growing at a tremendous rate,
and DATA RACE is an industry leader in Frame Relay compatibility,"
comments Tim Eargle, DATA RACE director of marketing for network
products.

REMOTE ACCESS TO THE CORPORATE ENVIRONMENT

W. B. Barker, the company's president and CEO observes, "One particular
market force drives communications technology today: the need for remote
access to the corporate environment." DATA RACE offers two principal
product lines that address this market. The first includes modular,
upgradable, multi-media multiplexers that connect branch locations to
their headquarters, with support for additional technologies such as Frame
Relay. As the second market segment, DATA RACE designs and manufactures
custom modems for notebook computers--modems that support data, voice,
Fax, answering machines, and speakerphones. A third market segment,
telecommuting, is growing at a rapid rate. "The needs of the telecommuters
are the marriage of the capabilities we are delivering to the other two
segments. "DATA RACE serves these markets innovatively with solutions that
are flexible, cost-effective, and," Barker emphasizes, "Future-Proof."
