CRESCENT INTRODUCES RADBENCH DEVELOPER PRODUCTIVITY TOOL

Crescent Improves Visual Basic 4.0 With New IDE Productivity Enhancement
Tool

Bedford, Mass., USA, January 30, 1996 -- The Crescent Division of Progress
Software Corporation (NASDAQ: PRGS) today announced RADBench, a new tool
aimed at greatly improving the productivity of Visual Basic developers.
Specially tuned to meet the needs of developers working with Visual Basic
Version 4.0, RADBench includes a wealth of features that enable developers
to more easily build business applications in Visual Basic, and complement
the many other productivity tools in the broad Crescent product lineup.

RADBench snaps directly into the Visual Basic Integrated Development
Environment (IDE), enhancing the IDE with numerous time-saving and
effort-reducing tools and utilities. It enables VB developers to do their
jobs quicker, with less effort, and more efficiently.

RADBench includes a broad range of features and functions that satisfy the
needs of all levels of developers. These include:

 * bookmarks in form or code windows for instant recall of precise
   work position
 * a Code Manager for API definitions and user-defined subroutines
 * sophisticated Message Box and Common Dialog Designers
 * one button commenting (and de-commenting) of entire blocks of code
 * quick insertion of pre-defined subroutine headers and revision
   marks
 * timed automatic saving of the current project when changes have
   been made
 * a full assortment of control alignment tools including container
   relative positioning
 * increased flexibility in freezing control positions on a form
 * picture capture from screen to a control, the Windows clipboard
   or a file
 * tab order setting by pointing and clicking, or automatically by
   position
 * automatic restoration of RADBench options and bookmarks by project
 * quick access to often-used programs and documents
 * a Class Wizard that automatically generates code to create classes
   in VB

RADBench technology was formerly marketed for Visual Basic Release 3.0 as
Thunderbolt by Software Savants.

"The Thunderbolt tools had always enabled me to more productively build
applications in Visual Basic 3.0," said Bruce Jones of Beach Computer
Services, an independent consulting and training group in Huntington
Beach, CA. "Now as I transition to Visual Basic 4.0, RADBench will enable
me to enjoy increased programming productivity in the Visual Basic 4.0
environment, with the added value of Crescent's world-class service and
support resources."

"While Visual Basic is rich in functionality, our customers, and the market
in general, have been demanding additional productivity enhancements to
the IDE," said Jennifer J. Bergantino, director of the Crescent Division
of Progress Software. "What will set our new tool apart from those
currently available is the value and robustness of RADBench, and
Crescent's world-class support team. This, in particular, appeals to our
corporate target audience."

Crescent will begin shipping RADBench in March, 1996, at the suggested U.S.
retail price of $119.00. RADBench will be available through Crescent
resellers worldwide, by secure purchase through the Crescent Web site, and
directly from the Crescent 800-number.
