PLATINUM TECHNOLOGY ANNOUNCES INFOREPORTS 2.0; BUSINESS INTELLIGENCE TOOL
WITH ENHANCED FEATURES FOR MANIPULATION OF REPORTS AND TIME-SAVING
BENEFITS FOR IT MANAGERS

OAKBROOK TERRACE, IL, JANUARY 29, 1996 . . . PLATINUM TECHNOLOGY, INC.,
today announced InfoReports (formerly named ProReports) version 2.0,
adding new features including advanced graphing capability, dynamic cross
tab, Rich Text Format (RTF) conversion, and support of the MAPI interface.
InfoReports 2.0 is a powerful reporting tool that enables users to
retrieve data from multiple databases on multiple platforms and combine
the data into a single customized report. Reports generated in InfoReports
can be run on either the client or server allowing organizations to use
their computing resources most efficiently.

"InfoReports 2.0 continues our commitment to enabling end users and their
IS organization to work together on corporate business intelligence
solutions by giving the end user robust tools for manipulating data, while
easing the IS organization's responsibilities in providing that data,"
said Frederick W. Rook, Ph.D., vice president of business intelligence at
PLATINUM technology. "For example, users access data from multiple
databases to produce a single report, generate multiple query reports and
go from an ad hoc to a production environment with a single tool. This
functional richness is in sharp contrast to products from other vendors
which cannot match the ease-of-use and performance in creating complex
reports."

INFOREPORTS 2.0 EMPOWERS END USERS AND SIMPLIFIES IS MANAGEMENT

Business intelligence tools, such as InfoReports, provide organizations
with increasingly efficient ways to utilize the vast amount of data within
their corporate databases. InfoReports version 2.0 adds new features that
help users manipulate and distribute that data more efficiently as well as
reduce the management time for the IS organization. For example,
InfoReports 2.0 is a leader in offering a dynamic cross tab feature which
dramatically reduces management time for the IS organization and provides
business users with the most current information. Dynamic cross tabbing
automatically updates reports with new columns and values each time the
report is run. This is a significant step up from static cross tabbing,
which requires reports to be recreated each time additional columns or
values are needed.

Other new features of InfoReports 2.0 are:

Enhanced graphing capability -- provides the ability to create
charts and data with one pass of the database and gives users
avariety of ways to visually display data.

RTF Conversion -- allows users to view, print, and manipulate reports
 with their word processing applications.

MAPI support -- allows users to distribute reports via email for
easy distribution while retaining the original formatting.

OLE support -- provides the ability to embed objects from other
 applications into a report.

InfoReports Scheduler -- gives users the ability to transfer and
schedule reports on the server from the InfoReports client.

NEW FEATURES RESPOND TO USER NEEDS

"Currently, InfoReports, and companion products InfoQuery and InfoReports
Server, are providing our diverse client base, which includes both
administration and faculty members, with robust information access and
formatting capabilities. The ability to access multiple platforms
simultaneously has provided a consolidated reporting environment for our
end users," said David Cresswell, director of Information Systems Support
Services at British Columbia Institute of Technology. "We are looking
forward to the new features in InfoReports version 2.0. The addition of
features such as advanced graphics and email capabilities will further
enhance the richness of this product and position us for the transition to
full information warehousing and mining."

SERVER-BASED REPORTING

Acompanion product, InfoReports Server, lets users run reports created in
InfoReports on either a UNIX or Windows NT server. Transferring the
processing to the server provides several benefits, especially when
running large production reports. Running large reports on the server
frees up the client, allowing the user to continue working in another
application. Network traffic is reduced because the reports can be run
during off hours. Production reports can be scheduled to run on a regular
basis using the InfoReports Scheduler feature or additional tools like
PLATINUM AutoSys. Distribution of reports throughout the organization is
also simplified with InfoReports Server. Reports can be distributed
directly from the server to a printer or to any MAPI-compatible email
system. InfoReports Server preserves any formatting done in InfoReports.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

InfoReports 2.0 will be available in February 1996. The Windows and Windows
NT client versions will be available at a price of $695 and the Motif
version at a price of $1395. InfoReports 2.0 is designed to access
