Novell Heralds March "Certification Month"

Certification Announcements, Presentations and Success Stories Featured at
BrainShare '96

OREM, Utah -- February 12, 1996 -- For the second year in a row, Novell,
Inc. has proclaimed March "Certification Month" and throughout the month,
the company will celebrate what Novell Chairman and CEO Robert Frankenberg
says is a "pervasive impact" -- the impact Novell- certified technical
support professionals have had and are having on changing the way people
use network software worldwide.

In conjunction with Certification Month, Novell's 12th annual BrainShare
technical conference held March 18-22, 1996 in Salt Lake City, Utah, will
feature success stories of Novell CNEs who have made an impact on their
corporations' and organizations' bottom-line successes, as well as those
who have significantly changed their own lives by earning their CNE
certification.

Built upon the BrainShare '96 theme, "Smart Global Network," Novell will
highlight these CNE, Master CNE, and Certified Novell Administrator (CNA)
successes through videotapes illustrating "How Certification Has Changed
My Life." Additional footage will highlight Certified Novell Instructors
(CNIs) and their teaching impact on their students.

BrainShare Attendees and Offerings

More than 5,000 networking professionals consisting of developers, CNEs,
Master CNEs, CNIs, consultants, IS managers, system integrators, systems
engineers, Novell business partners and industry media and analysts will
attend BrainShare '96. These participants will gain insight into the new
initiatives Novell is driving to integrate heterogeneous networks and
access information anywhere in the world. More than 75 percent of
BrainShare '96 participants are Novell-certified.

At BrainShare '96, participants will hear the latest on Novell's technology
and product roadmaps, see new technology demonstrations and have the
chance to meet and interact directly with Novell engineers and other
technologists. Novell CEO Robert Frankenberg and other top executives will
offer keynote addresses, with an additional 250- plus technical breakout
sessions scheduled throughout the five days of the conference.

In conjunction with Certification Month and BrainShare '96, Novell will
also introduce a new CNE alumni association designed to provide even more
value to CNEs, including a strengthened relationship with Novell.

For CNIs, Advanced Technical Suite (ATS) training will be offered. ATS, a
highly technical, solutions-based training seminar, will provide CNIs with
pre-release education on Novell's next revision of its NetWare network
operating system.

Certification Statistics

The value of Novell's certifications to organizations is readily recognized
and well-quantified by industry and Novell data showing that companies use
CNE as a criteria for hiring, raising, and promoting employees. Fortune
500 companies and small businesses alike rely on in-house or contracted
CNEs to service and support their networks.

In addition to the service impact Novell-certified employees make in
organizations around the world, they are astounding in their numbers -- or
"pervasiveness" within organizations. In March, there will be more than
82,000 CNEs; 6,500 Master CNEs; 93,000 CNAs; and 4,000 CNIs; as well as
135,000 "candidates-in-progress." This totals more than 320,500 Novell
certifications, or certifications in progress. During last year's kickoff
Certification Month, Novell celebrated the naming of its 50,000th CNE and
3,000th CNI milestone by flying them to BrainShare U.S.A.; Jan Schipper
from The Netherlands (50, 000th CNE), and Daniel Meservy from Concord,
Calif. (3,000th CNI).

Novell training courses are offered at 1,450 Novell Authorized Education
Centers (NAECs) and Novell Education Academic Partners (NEAPs) around the
globe, as well as being offered as degree-bearing credits at universities,
colleges, and junior colleges.
