NCR Provides Internet Access to Scalable Data Warehouses

MICROSTRATEGY'S DSS WEB PORTED TO NCR'S TERADATA DATABASE-- PROVIDES
DISTRIBUTED 'ANYTIME, ANYWHERE' ACCESS AND CENTRALIZED MANAGEMENT

DAYTON, Ohio, Monday, February 5, 1996 -- NCR TODAY ANNOUNCED A PARTNERSHIP
WITH MICROSTRATEGY, INC., TO PROVIDE CUSTOMERS REMOTE ACCESS TO THEIR DATA
WAREHOUSES THROUGH THE WORLD WIDE WEB (WWW).

NCR, the world leader in data warehousing solutions, is the first vendor to
provide an integrated solution that uses the ubiquitous Web to provide
distributed access to the wealth of information captured in a company's
data warehouse. Companies can now easily provide information access to
anyone with a Web browser, making decision-support analysis -- such as
"What are the top five items by category?" or "Who are my most profitable
customers?" -- available to a greater number of end users.

"A number of our customers -- including large retail, financial and
communication industry customers -- are looking for WWW-based data
warehouse access to leverage and grow their warehouse investments and
improve integration with suppliers and customers," said Dan Harrington,
NCR's Vice President - Computer Systems Group Solutions Marketing. "With
the Web's growing popularity and instantaneous access, we expect that the
Web user base for data warehousing will increase 100 to 1000 times over
where it is today. NCR's systems and the Teradata database provide the
performance and scalability to meet the high concurrent access
requirements that warehouse and Web integration will require."

MICROSTRATEGY PORTS DSS WEB TO NCR'S TERADATA:

As part of the strategic partnership, MicroStrategy -- based in Vienna, VA
-- is porting its new DSS Web to NCR's Teradata database system. DSS WEB
-- WHICH IS A RELATIONAL ON-LINE ANALYTICAL PROCESSING (ROLAP) TOOL --
ENABLES END USERS TO ACCESS DATA WAREHOUSE DECISION-SUPPORT APPLICATIONS
THROUGH INTERNET BROWSERS, SUCH AS NETSCAPE'S NAVIGATOR. Through the use
of DSS Script -- a HTML-based decision-support language -- DSS Web uses
MicroStrategy's decision-support application objects to allow end users to
ask questions of their corporate data.

"We're partnering with MicroStrategy because they have the most scalable,
high-performance relational OLAP solution today," said Harrington. "This
agreement will enable us to meet our customers demand for remote access to
information for critical decision making."

"The combination of DSS Web and NCR's scalable data warehouse solutions
empowers corporations to deliver mission critical OLAP applications to
more end users," said Michael Saylor, president and CEO of MicroStrategy.
"In addition, through DSS Web's centralized management and maintenance
architecture, companies can decrease application maintenance while
increasing application distribution."

REMOTE ACCESS TO THE WAREHOUSE:

NCR's integrated data warehouse offering includes DSS Web, world- class
scalable servers, industry-leading relational databases and global service
and integration support.

According to Harrington, providing end-users access to the warehouse has
typically involved building a network infrastructure, data marting and
deploying client/server data-access solutions throughout the enterprise.
NOW CUSTOMERS CAN LEVERAGE THE INTERNET TO EXPAND ACCESSIBILITY TO THE
WAREHOUSE AND SIGNIFICANTLY LOWER NETWORKING INFRASTRUCTURE, MAINTENANCE
AND MANAGEMENT COSTS.

"Our customers, who have implemented these types of solutions with existing
technology, have spent a large portion of their data warehouse investment
for remote access and management," said Harrington. "We believe the Web
provides customers an economical alternative to centrally manage their
warehousing initiatives."

SERVICES OFFERINGS:

With more than 20,000 services professionals operating in 130 countries,
NCR's service capabilities represent a unique combination of global
resources and strong presence in local markets. NCR offers a number of
programs ranging from helping customers get started in data warehousing to
helping manage terabyte-sized warehouses.
