MULTI-TECH SYSTEMS ANNOUNCES LANTALKER LT101 MODELS

MOUNDS VIEW, MINNESOTA -- January 30, 1996 -- Multi-Tech Systems, Inc., a
leading data communications technology company, announces the release of
its new LANTALKER models: the rack mounted LT101R card and the standalone
LT101. These products offer two new features: voice/fax/LAN multiplexing
and ISDN module. The products will begin shipping first quarter of 1996.
Prices begin at $1,349.00 and $1, 449.00 U.S. for the rack mounted and
standalone models, respectively.

"The release of the new LanTalker represents a significant breakthrough in
communications," states Raghu Sharma, founder and President of Multi-Tech
Systems, Inc. "For the first time, there's a single-product solution that
not only lets telecommuters take advantage of ISDN communications
technology, but also allows them to access the main office's LAN, and PBX
from a remote location over a single "B" channel, with an option of
utilizing 2 "B" channels with bonding. For example, users at the main
office can dial an extension to reach the remote site, and the remote
user's phone operates as if it were located at the main office. These
capabilities make these products an ideal solution for providing
high-speed network access to telecommuters and other remote users. In
addition, the user saves money by only having to use one "B" channel."

Designed with flexibility in mind, LanTalker can be customized to meet the
customer's demands. The base configuration of each LanTalker features one
router port and one voice/fax channel. The customer can then specify one
of the following internal link modules: an ISDN composite link terminal
adapter that connects to a Basic Rate Interface (BRI) service; a 56K bps
composite digital service unit (DSU); or a V.34 28.8K bps composite link
modem.

The ISDN link terminal adapter features several advancements including a
built-in NT1 interface to provide a connection between the phone company's
central office switch and the customer's site. In addition, it employs
BONDing (Bandwidth ON Demand) technology that allows the two "B" channels
to be combined into a single 128K bps composite link.

"One of the most significant features of these new products is Dial On
Demand," says Sharma. "This feature automatically detects and sets up an
ISDN connection between local and remote sites. The connection is then
automatically dropped upon voice/fax disconnect or when no data is
transferred for a predetermined period of time. This provides the
cost-saving benefit of having ISDN connected only when service is
required."

Dial On Demand works under one of four conditions: when receiving a ring
(FXO), when data is present, when going off-hook (FXS), and when PBX trunk
is accessed (E&M).

To facilitate connections with other ISDN devices, the ISDN link terminal
adapter supports the V.120 protocol and complies with National ISDN-1
standards and switches, including AT&TR 5ESS ISDN, Northern Telecom
DMS-100, and Siemens Stromberg-Carlson EWSDR.

Standard features of both LanTalker models include FXS (phone, fax, or key
telephone) and FXO (PBX station side) interfaces on each fax/voice
channel, E&M (PBX trunk side), and an RS232C/V.24 configuration port. The
models also feature Multi-Tech's patent-pending Advanced Priority
Statistical Multiplexing scheme which allows voice or fax packets to
interrupt data transmissions for near-immediate transmission. Both models
also have a V.24 / V.35 composite port to connect external modems, DSU's
and ISDN terminal adapters.

The RackTalker (model CC101) is a rack-mountable card cage designed to let
users create their own consolidated, economical communications solution.
RackTalker accepts up to eight hot-swappable LanTalker concentrators
(LT101R). Each card features its own power supply, for enhanced
reliability and performance. In the unlikely event that a power supply
fails, only the card powered by the failed supply is affected. Although
the system has multiple power supplies, the rack has only one AC power
cord. The internal link options for the stand-alone versions also apply to
the rack-mount models.
