MERIDIAN DATA SHIPS NEW LINE OF HIGH-PERFORMANCE CD ROM NETWORK SERVERS AND
STORAGE SUBSYSTEMS

Networking Solutions Integrate Eight-Megabit-per-Second CD ROM Drives,
Include Advanced CD Application Management Software

SCOTTS VALLEY, Calif. (January 31, 1996) -- Meridian Data, Inc.
(NASDAQ/NMS: MDCD) today announced its line of CD NET CD ROM SERVERS and
CD NETROM SUBSYSTEMS, powerful new solutions for managing and accessing
CD-based information over Novell NetWare, Microsoft Windows NT and Banyan
VINES networks.

Employing advanced 6.7x-speed CD ROM drives, the new products can transfer
CD information at rates of up to 8 megabits-per-second (Mbit/sec) per
drive, approaching Ethernet's standard bandwidth. The high-throughput
solutions--complete with Meridian's suite of network administrative and
user management tools--are ideal for a wide range of business
applications.

"The new 6.7x-speed CD ROM drives put CD technology squarely on the video
server roadmap, especially when coupled with emerging LAN technologies
such as 100-Mbit/sec Ethernet," said Jeff Hill, product manager at
Meridian Data. "Given CD Net's ability to stream multiple data sets
simultaneously to multiple network users, it also means improved system
responsiveness and throughput for the vast majority of existing CD ROM
applications."

New CD ROM Servers

Meridian's industry-leading CD Net integrated network servers provide a
secure, contaminant-free environment for controlling and accessing CD ROM
resources. Designed for heavy-use environments, the products operate as
standalone nodes on the organization network. The CD Net product line,
configurable with up to 56 drives per server, supports workgroup,
departmental and enterprise-wide applications. With 8- Mbit/sec
performance CD ROM drives, the new servers are able to transfer data 67%
faster than alternative 4x-speed products.

CD Net software provides a single Windows-native administrative control
point for managing CDs across multiple servers. Keeping track of the discs
as they are moved among drives and servers, the software allows the
administrator to map single or multiple discs as shared network volumes,
enabling users to access many titles using only one desktop drive letter.

With Meridian's client application software, a wide range of network
users--including native Windows, Windows 95, Windows for Workgroups,
MS-DOS and Macintosh clients--can access CDs from multiple servers located
anywhere on the network.

New CD ROM Subsystems

Meridian's CD NetROM subsystems facilitate easy integration of the
6.7x-speed drives directly into a wide range of network file servers. In
these applications, the CD networking resources coexist with other file,
database and communications services.

CD NetROM subsystems are compatible with Meridian's line of optional
networking software: CD Net Plus, CD Net for NetWare, CD Net for Windows
NT and CD Net for VINES.

The SCSI CD ROM storage modules include 1, 4, 7 or 14 drives per subsystem,
ISA or EISA host adapter card, power supply, cabling and cabinetry.
Meridian also offers CD NetROM bundles--complete 4- or 7-drive subsystems
with 10-user version of CD Net Plus Software-- for configuring a PC as a
CD ROM server in NetWare environments.

Pricing and Availability

The CD Net integrated servers and CD NetROM subsystems with 6.7x- speed CD
ROM drives are available immediately. Suggested list pricing (U.S.) for
the CD Net servers and the CD NetROM subsystems starts at $6,520 and
$1,415, respectively.
