Lexmark Printers First To Receive Desktop Management Interface
Certification

NETWORK ADMINISTRATORS CAN NOW MANAGE DIRECTLY CONNECTED OPTRA PLUS MODELS,
OPTRA C

LEXINGTON, KY., FEBRUARY 22, 1996 . . . Lexmark International Inc.
announced today that its Optra plus monochrome and Optra C color laser
printers have received formal certification of their compliance with the
Desktop Management Interface (DMI) standard from the Desktop Management
Task Force (DMTF), making Lexmark the first printer company to receive the
certification.

Lexmark's compliance with the DMI standard greatly enhances administrators'
efficiency in providing remote control, centralized management, inventory
and asset management, and meaningful help desk support of Optra plus and
Optra C printers. Lexmark announced the Optra plus and Optra C in
September of 1995.

Today's announcement also illustrates Lexmark's leadership role in network
printer management. Lexmark has been a member of the DMTF standards
development team since its formation, and is the first company to deliver
printers that include DMI support.

The DMI compliance in the Optra plus models and Optra C, coupled with
DMI-compliant network management applications from Microsoft, Intel, or
Novell, allows network administrators to monitor both networked and
locally attached printers from their management consoles -- whether they
are at the network sites or remotely connected. Without DMI, managers
cannot remotely manage printers that are directly attached to the users'
PCs.

"From the onset, Lexmark has been fully committed to the work of the
printer task force of the DMTF," said Glenn Hudson, vice president,
Network Printers, and general manager, Attachment Products. "We are very
pleased with the level of industry acceptance DMI has attained -- and
we're especially pleased to reinforce our commitment to this critical
standard with the delivery of certified DMI compliance in every Optra plus
models and Optra C printer we sell."

"We believe the level of management that vendors provide through compliance
to the DMI standard is critical for the next generation of computing to
emerge," said Ed Arrington, chairman of the DMTF. "The industry's
acceptance of DMI makes it the one standard that enables companies to
manage all aspects of their PCs, servers and peripherals -- with
technology they can purchase today. We are pleased to see Lexmark's
leading support for the DMI with this printer announcement."

Lexmark's network printing products offer a broad range of compatibility
for all leading operating systems environments. Lexmark's Optra plus
printer family supports 1200 x 1200 dpi printing and up to two MarkNet
INAs with multiprotocol capabilities that allow printing from more than 30
network environments including Novell NetWare, Microsoft Windows NT, IBM
OS/2 LAN Server, Banyan VINES and a full spectrum of UNIX environments.
