LANCAST Introduces T4 Fast Ethernet Line to Give Users More Cabling Options
for 100 Mbps Networking

February 13, 1996, Networks Expo Boston -- LANCAST, a leading provider of
innovative and cost-effective Ethernet solutions, today announced the
addition of T4 adapters and media translators to the company's Fast
Ethernet product line. The addition of 100Base-T4 products helps round out
LANCAST's Fast Ethernet product offering to give users more flexibility in
100 Mbps cabling options.

The 100Base-T4 standard defines data transmission over four pair of
Category 3, 4 or 5 media or voice-grade twisted pair cables. This allows
Fast Ethernet to run over lower grade UTP and over noncompliant Category 5
UTP to make Fast Ethernet compatible with the wiring in many existing
10Base-T networks. The T4 standard also allows network managers who are
unsure of the type of twisted pair currently used in their networks to
implement Fast Ethernet without testing or replacing cables.

"These new T4 products allow us to bring 100 Mbps technology to users who
may have older cabling in their existing networks," said Asbjorn Sorhaug,
LANCAST's executive vice president and chief operating officer. "As with
our complete Fast Ethernet line, the T4 adapter and media translators
offer a cost-effective way to begin taking advantage of the speed and
performance that Fast Ethernet offers."

FastLink 10/100 PCI Adapter

The FastLink 10/100 T4 PCI Adapter offers cost-effective 10 and 100 Mbps
operation for the new generation of high-performance Pentium and Alpha
based machines with PCI bus. The adapter's speed sensing feature
automatically uses the fastest speed supported by the device connected to
the adapter.

While the T4 standard is not able to support full duplex transmission at
100 Mbps, the FastLink adapter offers full duplex operation at 10 Mbps to
provide maximum performance in traditional Ethernet networks.

The adapter is fully compatible with all PCI compliant machines and offers
the convenience of plug and play for easy installation.

"the twister" Media Translator

LANCAST's newest versions of "the twister" media translator provide
transparent integration of T4, TX and FX Fast Ethernet segments while
providing users with an affordable and reliable means of media conversion.
The new T4 versions of "the twister" allow users to connect a T4 Ethernet
segment directly to a fiber segment or a TX segment, helping to overcome
cabling limitations and allowing greater flexibility in network design.
Ethernet signals passing through "the twister" are fully restored and
signal activity is reliably translated assuring accurate communications
and collision detection in the connected segments.

The shielded RJ-45 connector supports 100Base-T4 links up to 100 meters
over four pair of voice or media grade Category 3, 4 or 5 unshielded
twisted pair cable. The FX to T4 version of the twister supports fiber
optics links up to two kilometers while the T4 to TX version supports
100Base-TX links up to 100 meters over Category 5 unshielded twisted pair
wiring. The T4 twisters are available in versions supporting multimode SC
and ST fiber and single mode SC fiber cabling.

Pricing and Availability

The 10/100 T4 PCI Adapter, which will be featured in Booth #3024 at
Networks Expo, is shipping now with a suggested list price of $249. The FX
to T4 and TX to T4 twisters will begin shipping in mid March with a
suggested list price of $790.
