IONA Technologies Licenses Object Technology to Silicon Graphics

San Francisco, California, 9 February 1995: IONA Technologies Ltd.
announced today that IONA's Orbix will play a significant role in Silicon
Graphics' object technology and enterprise computing strategy.

Orbix is IONA's market leading implementation of the Object Management
Group's CORBA (Common Object Request Broker Architecture) specification.
With Orbix, corporate developers can build information systems based on a
standard, company-wide software bus.

Silicon Graphics has long been committed to object technology and the power
it provides. With the licensing of Orbix, Silicon Graphics will provide
software developers and customers with unmatched capabilities to deliver
world class distributed applications and tools.

Silicon Graphics has full access to the Orbix source code and is
implementing it across the entire product family. IONA intends to extend
Orbix specifically for the large scale, symmetric multiprocessor
capabilities of the Silicon Graphics hardware base.

"With this announcement, Silicon Graphics is taking a major step forward in
its object strategy in which all of our services will be linked together,"
said Rick LeFaivre, vice president of engineering for Silicon Graphics'
Network Systems Division. "Orbix will play a significant role as it will
enable enterprise applications to work together as one cohesive system."

Silicon Graphics will incorporate and sell Orbix 2.x along with the Orbix
Naming Service on the IRIX operating system. The company also plans to
create bundled application software based on Orbix. The first Silicon
Graphics release of Orbix will be available this quarter. In addition,
IONA and Silicon Graphics will work together to maintain interoperability
and source code compatibility among all 20 operating system versions of
Orbix.

"We've been shipping Orbix on IRIX since 1993. The sophistication of the
Silicon Graphics customers have long appreciated the merits of Orbix,"
says Annrai O'Toole, Chief Technical Officer at IONA Technologies. "Today,
IONA and Silicon Graphics are teaming up to extend and enhance Orbix,
while also embarking on a project to provide truly integrated enterprise
software."

"This is a glowing endorsement for Orbix" says Chris Horn, Chairman and CEO
of IONA. "We were the first company to deliver a complete, commercially
available CORBA implementation and we are also leading the pack with CORBA
2.0, integration with third party middleware and platform coverage. In
choosing Orbix, Silicon Graphics has picked an ORB that will link its
software to software running on anything up to 20 different operating
systems, including Windows."

Based in Dublin, Ireland, and Boston, MA., IONA Technologies Ltd. is the
world's leading provider of CORBA conforming solutions. Its principal
product, Orbix, was launched in June 1993 as the first full and complete
implementation of the Object Management Group's (OMG's) Common Object
Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) standard. With Orbix, programmers can
develop distributed, object-oriented applications following a consistent
and straightforward, standards-based model.

Orbix currently runs on 20 operating systems from a single code base.
Platforms include: Windows 95, Windows 3.1x, Windows NT, OS/2, Macintosh
System 7.5, twelve different Unix systems, OpenVMS AXP and the real-time
operating systems VxWorks, QNX and LynxOS. Orbix for Windows and Windows
NT uses OCX technology allowing OLE-enabled applications to transparently
invoke remote and local CORBA objects. IONA has integrated Orbix with
ODI's ObjectStore object-oriented database, Isis Distributed Systems'
reliable distributed computing technology and a variety of third-party
middleware and tools.

Orbix is used by thousands of developers world-wide in large and small
corporations. All versions of Orbix interoperate seamlessly. IONA is
partly owned by SunSoft, Inc. In December 1995 Orbix was awarded product
of the year by Unix Review Magazine.

Rogue Wave And IONA Technologies Develop Tools For Easily Passing C++
Objects Across A CORBA Interface

ORBstreams.h++ allows developers using IONA's Orbix to distribute Rogue
Wave classes and other C++ objects as conveniently as native CORBA
objects

SAN FRANCISCO, CA -- February 9, 1996: Rogue Wave Software and IONA
Technologies today announced ORBstreams.h++, a C++ class library that
gives developers using IONA's Orbix the ability to easily pass C++ objects
across a CORBA interface. Previously developers were required to describe
C++ objects in CORBA Interface Definition Language (IDL) before they could
communicate with other CORBA objects. ORBstreams.h++ works with both Rogue
Wave and user-defined C++ objects.
