New SmartBoard alleviates time consuming file swapping in multiple "cut and
paste" operations

BOUNTIFUL, UTAH -- Feb 20, 1996 -- Insight Software Solutions, Inc. today
announced the immediate availability of SmartBoard, a program designed to
enhance the functionality of the Windows Clipboard, for both Windows 3.1
and Windows 95.

SmartBoard is a "Clipboard Extender" for Windows. The normal Windows
Clipboard can only retain a single item at a time. As soon as a second
item is copied to the Clipboard the first item is lost. This is no longer
true with the arrival of SmartBoard. SmartBoard retains multiple "Clip
Items" even across a Windows restart and allows simple pasting back of any
item into any application.

SmartBoard runs as an invisible task in Windows with no icon cluttering up
the desktop. A single mouse-click or press of a hot-key pops SmartBoard up
on top of the current application allowing the selection of the "Clip
Item" to paste. It then disappears again after automatically pasting the
item into the current application. There is normally no need to use the
application's own paste command.

"SmartBoard appears to be almost built into the operating system itself and
that makes it a complete no-brainer to use", said Colin Messitt, Senior
Partner at Oakley Data Services. "The user can just pop SmartBoard into
the Startup group and forget about it until an item needs to be recalled
for pasting. The power and ease of operation makes it valuable to almost
all Windows users. This includes office-suite users copying and pasting
text and spreadsheet cells, through developers using it for boilerplate
code, to power multimedia users cutting and pasting images and sounds".

SmartBoard supports all clipboard formats and allows the user complete
control over the format configuration. The user can specify what clipboard
formats to capture from each program. In addition, each format can be
limited in capture size and a preferred format option may be selected. For
example, the user could specify a capture of both Rich Text Format and
plain Text from Microsoft Word and the Lotus compatible XL1 format from
Microsoft Excel, but only if it is less than 50K in size.

The modem interface looks much like File Manager or the Win95 Explorer. It
includes a set of user-definable categories and sub-categories down the
left side of the window with the right side displaying the content of the
currently selected category. The first few characters of text items are
shown. Bitmaps and Metafiles are shown as thumbnails while other data
formats display as capture detail information.

Nicknames can be assigned to any of the items for easier identification.
The user can "zoom-in" on an item for a closer look by right-clicking the
mouse. Zooming in on text items presents a pop-up window showing the first
few lines complete with formatting information (tabs/line breaks etc.).
Zooming in on graphic items displays them full-size. A "plug-in viewer"
interface allows the development of zoom-in capability for any other
Clipboard format. A sample is supplied which plays any wave files that
have been captured from the Clipboard. The interface is open and sample
source-code is supplied to help other developers.

A system-wide hot-key facility allows the association of a key combination
with a particular clipboard item. Whenever the key combination is pressed
the associated item is automatically pasted into the current application.

Items can be moved around between categories using Drag 'n Drop. Multiple
text items can be appended together either automatically while capturing
or after the event. Items can be edited, printed or saved to a file. For
text items, a template capability allows the user to create "boilerplate"
items with variable fields that can either be updated automatically
(dates/times etc.) or manually with the user specifying the required
replacement data at paste time.

All the usual elements of a modem Windows application such as toolbars,
fly-by hints, and context sensitive pop-up help are included making
SmartBoard a snap to use.

SmartBoard runs under Windows 3.1 or 95 and requires a VGA or better
monitor and 4MB Ram. Initial installation requires less than 800K of hard
disk space.

An evaluation version of SmartBoard is available so users can determine
suitability before committing themselves. Potential users can obtain
evaluation copies from our World-Wide-Web Home Page
(http://www.smartcode.com/iss) and FTP site (ftp://ftp.smartcode.com) on
the Internet. In addition, evaluation copies may be found on CompuServe in
library 4 of the UKSHARE forum and through other popular shareware
avenues.

SmartBoard pricing is $24.95 plus $3.00 shipping and handling in the USA.
