IBM infoSage Helps Business Professionals Save Time, Maintain Competitive
Edge

IBM Launches Online Information Delivery Service

SAN JOSE, February 20, 1996 . . . IBM today unveiled an online news and
information delivery service that will play an integral part in its
network-centric computing strategy. IBM infoSage
(http://www.infosage.ibm.com) filters thousands of information sources to
pinpoint and deliver industry-specific news and information that business
professionals need to stay competitive.

Using leading-edge topic profiling technologies and drawing resources from
a comprehensive array of content providers, IBM infoSage provides up to 30
stories twice each business day on topics ranging from news and business
information to entertainment and sports. Information is tailored to suit
individual needs and the service offers users a choice in the method of
delivery -- via either the user's personalized World Wide Web page on the
IBM infoSage Web site or their Internet e-mail.

"In today's competitive business environment, the need for business
professionals to quickly and cost effectively assess critical,
industry-specific information is essential for survival," said Joseph A.
Damassa, vice president and managing director in the electronic content
services area, IBM Internet Division. "IBM infoSage provides a fundamental
service by delivering only the most relevant information directly to users
without their having to search for it."

that they can leverage to build a competitive advantage."

How IBM infoSage Works

Through the use of a powerful topic profile editor, subscribers to IBM
infoSage specify and personalize the topics of interest to them --
choosing from over 2300 industry-specific categories.

IBM infoSage also allows users to "create their own topic," making it
possible to select from an infinite number of subjects, for an unmatched
level of topic personalization and functionality from the service.

The service then uses filtering technologies to identify the stories that
are most relevant based on the user's profile. Twice each business day, up
to 30 stories are delivered via either the user's personalized Web page,
Internet-connected e-mail and soon Lotus Notes. The full text of each
story is available at the click of a button through the Web, or upon
request through e-mail.

IBM infoSage also features a unique "Alert Service," which provides quick
delivery of breaking news stories that are of special interest to the
subscriber. The alert feature sends special full-text "alerts" via e-mail
anytime -- day or night -- whenever the news is received.

The service will initially provide information from over 2000 sources from
the following categories:

o Business Magazines
o Company/Product News
o Company Profiles and Reports
o Entertainment
o Government News
o Industry Reports and Journals
o National News
o Newsletters
o SEC Filings
o Sports
o Stock Tracker
o World News

IBM infoSage, a subscription service priced at $24.95 per month, will
become commercially available in April, 1996. IBM will offer a one month
trial period of the service, once available. Currently, visitors to the
Web site can become beta testers.

Today's announcement is another example of IBM's network- centric computing
strategy -- IBM's blueprint to enable users to receive, use and share
applications and services across worldwide voice and data networks.

"IBM infoSage provides a valuable, content-rich service to complement IBM's
comprehensive Internet strategy," said Thomas P. McClain, general manager,
Electronic Content Services. "IBM is committed to bringing their customers
a rich portfolio of network-centric solutions."

IBM infoSage is the latest addition to the IBM Internet Division's robust
portfolio of customer solutions in the field of information management and
distribution over the Internet's World Wide Web.

IBM infoSage will continue to add features and functionality over time --
including transaction-based services, and industry- specific resources.
The service will aim to increase the productivity of business
professionals by leveraging technology to allow effective assessment and
integration of the vast quantity of information resources available.

The IBM network-centric computing offerings also include the IBM infoMarket
Service -- a new network offering that helps users to search many
different databases simultaneously across the Internet, and also will
ensure that content owners are paid for use of their works as they are
redistributed to others.
