IBM Ties PC Servers to Global Networks

LAN Management Via the Internet

SOMERS, NY, February 20, 1996 . . . To help customers unlock the full
potential of their PC Server systems, IBM today unveiled a collection of
solutions that will tie PC Servers to global networks.

"Almost overnight, customers have seen the need to expand the reach and
range of their PC Server networks," said Michael Coleman, General Manager,
IBM PC Servers, "and we're poised to meet these demands. Today we're
announcing a collection of solutions that will link IBM PC Servers to the
Internet. What's more, IBM will make these PC Servers work in the real
world by making it possible for customers to manage their LANs across the
Internet from any PC or workstation with a web browser."

LAN Management Over the Internet

Leading today's collection of Internet products is ground-breaking
technology that will allow LAN administrators to manage their
LAN-connected PCs over an Internet connection. Not only will this offer an
incredible opportunity to manage remote locations all over the world over
an existing infrastructure, it also will allow LAN administrators to
perform management tasks from any desktop or laptop -- from an Apple or a
Zenith.

This function is a feature of IBM PC SystemView 4.0. PC SystemView
(previously known as NetFinity) is the entry point to IBM's SystemView
family. It will offer a wealth of systems management functions from asset
management and performance monitoring to preemptive problem detection and
help-desk support. All of these functions will be available through a web
browser (such as Netscape or IBM WebExplorer) connected over the Internet
to PC SystemView with the Web feature installed.

PC SystemView 4.0 will fully support Microsoft Windows NT. It will also
support IBM OS/2 Warp, Microsoft Windows 3.1, 3.11, Windows '95 and Novell
NetWare, all of which are supported already by NetFinity 3.05.

IBM PC Server Internet Series

Offering the latest in Internet technology, IBM also introduced three
Internet PC Server solutions -- software bundled with an IBM PC Server 320
-- that make it easy for resellers to customize Internet web servers for
customers. The solutions feature three of the most popular combinations of
Internet secure servers and network operating systems:

-- IBM Internet Connection Secure Server and IBM OS/2 Warp Server
-- Netscape Commerce Server and SunSoft Solaris
-- Netscape Commerce Server and Microsoft Windows NT Server

The solutions come with an enhanced installation process that allows
resellers (or end users) to quickly create a web server that fully
supports all key Internet and World Wide Web standards such as HTTP, Java
and SSL (Secure Sockets Layer). The OS/2 solution also supports S-HTTP
(Secure Hypertext Transport Protocol).

To build a customized web server, resellers can install the network
operating system and server code included with the bundle and then add
their own or third-party application code. All licensing requirements for
code bundled for the IBM PC Server are included in the bundle, so
resellers are not required to make phone calls, write letters or obtain
encryption codes. IBM also has tested and supports a number of
Internet-specific adapters and devices that cover a range of connection
options including T1, X.25, Frame Relay and ISDN. All of this means
resellers can get an Internet web server up and running quickly for their
customers with minimum time and expense.

Pricing and Availability

The IBM PC Server Internet Server Series will be available initially in
North America beginning March 29. Prices are estimated at about $7969 for
the OS/2-based Internet Server; $8889 for the SunSoft Solaris-based
Internet Server; and $7969 for the NT-based Internet Server.+

IBM PC SystemView 4.0 will be available in May for $449 for the manager and
$39 for the client. IBM PC SystemView will ship at no additional cost with
IBM PC Servers and most IBM commercial desktop PCs and IBM ThinkPads.

IBM PC Servers

The IBM PC Server business offers customers a complete line of PC Servers
from minitowers for independent LANs to superservers for high-end
fault-tolerant networks. Intel Pentium microprocessors and PCI bus

OpenServer and Microsoft Windows NT. Rounding out the IBM PC Server
