HP To Deliver High-Performance SMP Pentium Processor On NetServer LS
Series

HP Demonstrates the New Pentium 166MHz Processor

PALO ALTO, CALIFORNIA. FEBRUARY 12, 1996 -- Hewlett-Packard Company today
announced it will unveil the new Intel Pentium/166MHz processor-based HP
NetServer LS Series at the CeBit technology trade show on March 14 in
Hanover, Germany. The HP NetServer 5/166 LS will offer single- to
quad-symmetric multiprocessor systems with dual PCI peer bus
architecture.

Winner of PC Magazine's "Editors' Choice" award, the HP NetServer LS Series
provides the manageability, availability and performance technology
necessary in today's business-critical environments. HP offers a complete
line of PCI-based servers with fault-tolerant features that ensure data
integrity and high system uptime.

The HP NetServer 5/166 LS is expected to be available April 1. Prices are
scheduled for release on March 14.

"HP has a longstanding commitment of providing unparalleled levels of
performance, availability and manageability in its NetServer systems,"
said Duncan Campbell, worldwide marketing manager of HP's Network Server
Division. "With the introduction of the Intel 166MHz processor, HP
delivers cutting-edge technology to its customers."

High Availability and Performance for Business-critical Applications

HP NetServer LS array models offer a dual-channel PCI disk-array controller
that supports fast and wide SCSI drives in RAID levels 0, 1, 5 and 6. In
addition to providing high performance through PCI bus and better
processor utilization, this PCI array controller features the automatic
hot-spare drive architecture, which automatically reconstructs data on a
spare drive in the event of a drive failure.

The high performance of HP's NetServer LS Series includes fault-tolerant
features that ensure data integrity and high system uptime to meet the
high-availability requirements of business-critical environments. The new
hot-swap disk subsystem has a dual SCSI backplane that makes internal disk
duplexing easy and allows the server to continue working while failed
drives are being replaced. This hot-swap subsystem also is equipped with
an intelligent bus for managing the subsystem and its hard drives. Error
checking and correcting (ECC) memory is standard on the LS Series.

HP Industry Alliances

HP continues to build on its strong relationships with industry leaders,
providing its customers with a variety of client/server solutions for
optimal performance, availability and manageability. The HP NetServer LS
Series has earned SAP certification running R/3 on Microsoft Windows NT
Server. In addition, Microsoft BackOffice and the HP NetServer LS together
create a common platform for sharing information and streamlining
processes. The NetServer LS Series will also support mission-critical
applications such as Oracle7, Sybase SQL Server and Lotus Notes.

The NetServer LS Series supports industry-leading network operating
systems, including Banyan VINES, IBM OS/2 Warp and LAN Server, Microsoft
Windows NT Server, Novell NetWare and UnixWare and SCO OpenServer.

unauthorized access. In addition, HP NetServer Assistant 2.3 software and
HP OpenView 7.2B are supported on Microsoft Windows 95 and Microsoft
Windows NT 3.5x management consoles using the 16-bit API.

The HP NetServer LS Series features enable/disable capability for serial
port, floppy drive and switches, and built-in automatic server restart
