HP To Add 1.3GB And 2GB Enhanced-IDE Hard Drives To HP SureStore Product
Line

PALO ALTO, CALIFORNIA. FEBRUARY 12, 1996 -- Broadening its presence in the
desktop personal computer hard-drive market, Hewlett-Packard Company today
announced two new reliable and easy-to-use HP SureStore hard drives.

The new 1.3GB and 2.0GB 3.5-inch Enhanced-IDE (E-IDE) drives, which are
expected to be available in volume to resellers and system integrators by
the end of this calendar quarter, expand the company's line of 1GB and
1.6GB HP SureStore desktop PC hard drives introduced last fall.

"HP is committed to providing resellers and integrators with high- quality,
easy-to-install hard drives that are backed by the high standards of
support and service customers have come to expect from HP and the
SureStore brand," said Eric Larson, marketing manager for HP's Disk Memory
Division.

"Desktop PC users are rapidly discovering that anything less than a
gigabyte of hard-drive storage isn't enough for data-intensive multimedia
and Windows 95 applications," said Lori Lewis, reseller channel manager
for HP's Disk Memory Division. "Resellers can now offer a wide range of PC
customers a corresponding spectrum of hard- drive capacities from HP and
reap the benefits of high reliability, ease of integration and solid
support that come with the HP SureStore brand."

The two-platter 1.3GB HP SureStore 1300A (C5272A) and the three-platter
2.0GB HP SureStore 2000A (C5273A) hard drives feature less than 12-
millisecond seek performance, rotational speeds of 4,500 rpm and embedded
servos. The drives' Enhanced-IDE interface supports data transfers of up
to 16.6MB/second.

All HP SureStore hard drives are compatible with popular PC hardware --
386, 486 and Pentium -class systems -- and operating systems, including
Windows 95, Windows NT, Windows for Workgroups, Novell NetWare, SCO UNIX,
DOS and OS/2 Warp. These drives also feature S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring,
Analysis and Reporting Technology), which enables host systems and
applications to work together to flag users in the event of a potential
threat to stored data on the drive.

The two new models have a three-year limited warranty backed by HP's
24-hour Express Exchange policy(1). Certain models also are eligible for a
warranty upgrade that provides on-site support if the drives are
integrated or added to HP Vectra PCs, HP Pavilion PCs or other HP
systems.

U.S. Prices and Availability

The new HP SureStore Hard Drive 1300A and 2000A are expected to be
available through resellers March 1. The drives will be available in
single-pack kits bundled with mounting rails and screws, an installation
software diskette, a front bezel and a five-language installation guide --
all packed in a four-color HP SureStore box. System integrators and
value-added resellers also may purchase 20-drive multipacks bundled with
20 installation guides in a plain box (installation software for these
drives are preloaded on the hard drives) for a reduced cost. End-user
pricing may be obtained from HP resellers.
