DIGITAL JOINS WITH THE WASHINGTON POST, ABC NEWS AND NEWSWEEK TO PUT REAL
TIME ELECTION RESULTS AND ANALYSIS ON LINE

Digital's Alpha Technology Powers Potential Record-Setting Web Site

WASHINGTON, D.C., Feb. 13, 1996 -- Real time election results and analysis
are now available on the World Wide Web. Digital Equipment Corporation is
providing the technology solution to launch the ElectionLine World Wide
Web site from The Washington Post, ABC News and Newsweek. ElectionLine,
located at http://www.ElectionLine.com, delivers original political and
election coverage each day plus news and analysis throughout the 1996
election year.

"ElectionLine builds on the innovative technology developed by Digital in
1994 for the California Election Internet Web site," said Rose Ann
Giordano, vice president of Digital's Internet Business Group. "Digital's
high performance, 64-bit Alpha architecture enables lightening-fast
delivery of real time information to vast numbers of people around the
world. Digital, in partnership with ElectionLine, is providing an
unprecedented opportunity, enabling a more-informed and engaged
electorate."

ElectionLine covers daily campaign events, provides comprehensive
information on candidates and issues, commentary and analysis, and
real-time coverage of election results. There also will be interactive
forums, using Digital's Workgroup Web Forum software, enabling the public
to discuss the issues and provide their views.

"This project demonstrates Digital's ability to provide a total solution
for complex Internet World Wide Web projects. We are using
state-of-the-art 64-bit Alpha technology and systems integration expertise
in workgroup computing and network security in an Internet client/server
environment," said Rick Distasio, Digital's Systems Integration vice
president in the Washington region."

"Technically, this is huge," said Ralph Terkowitz, vice president of
technology for the Washington Post Company. "Digital enables us to host a
large volume of simultaneous users ensuring that ElectionLine is always
accessible. This technology allows us to present the news through a
combination of video, audio and text. Digital is part of an incredibly
ambitious content effort."

ElectionLine is supported by the design expertise and navigational
technologies of Digital's partners Persimmon IT and Personal Library
Software, Inc.

Persimmon IT, worked with Digital to design the ElectionLine Web site so
that visitors can easily navigate among the chat rooms, breaking news,
live events and myriads of searchable databases offered by participating
news organizations and hyperlinked sites throughout the Internet.

Personal Library Software, Inc. (PLS) provides the search engine technology
used for the ElectionLine site. Known for its continuous updating and
handling of massive databases, the PLS engine permits instantaneous
