DIGITAL ANNOUNCES COMPREHENSIVE INTERNET SOLUTION PACKAGES

Bundled Hardware, Software & Services For The Internet

MAYNARD, Mass., February 5, 1996 -- Digital Equipment Corporation today
announced a comprehensive offering of four robust Internet Solution
Packages to provide Internet-focused businesses and corporate users with
bundled packages of hardware, software and services designed to meet a
wide scope of business needs related to the Internet.

With the hardware and software pre-configured in a range of prices, these
packages are then customizable with services to meet the specific needs of
clients to help them begin or expand operations on the Internet in the
shortest possible time at the most competitive cost with the greatest
understanding and benefit.

Strongly supporting Digital's comprehensive Internet Solution Packages
approach is Allen Weiner, Principal Analyst for Online Strategies at
Dataquest, who stated that "for today's entrepreneur looking for an
Internet solution, too many options present a piecemeal approach which
requires integrating products whose architectures aren't inherently
compatible.

"Digital's Internet Solution Packages offer high-end users with robust
applications - as well as those looking to dip their toes into new
Internet waters - a one-stop, integrated hardware, software and services
approach which makes being part of the online revolution a worry-free
step," Weiner added.

The four Internet Solution Packages announced by Digital today are:

INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER (ISP) SOLUTION PACKAGE ---

Designed to provide prospective and existing Internet service providers
with a robust, integrated, production-level solution for launching or
expandingan ISP business. Configured to support 2,500 to 5,000
subscribers, this package is a modular, easily scalable building block
that will support a minimum of 250 concurrent users from both dial-in or
ISDN connections. It will allow ISP's with an Internet connection to get
up, running and selling services without having to integrate an array of
complex networking technologies from multiple vendors.

Priced at $169,900, this package is available worldwide and is geared for
the next generation of ISP's that will need to compete on performance,
accessible services, and high availability. Included in the basic package
are: Digital's rackmounted AlphaServer 1000; systems for managing customer
accounts; Web hosting; DNS; news feeds; and integrated authentication and
billing software. Services are included to customize the solution to fit
in either a start-up operation or an existing environment. The basic
package would need to be augmented with a choice of industry-leading
network access products at additional cost. Options for systems designed
for a larger number of subscribers, higher-level security, and high
availability may also be ordered.

Service Provider Solution Customer Comment: "Our customers are telling us
that they want an Internet Service Provider that offers toll-free access
to Internet-based services. Digital's consulting and integration services,
combined with its Internet experience, allow us to meet that demand
quickly and effectively through a state-of-the-art network," said Ronald
E. Spears, Vice President of Telecommunications, Citizens Utilities,
Stamford, Connecticut.

INTERNET INFORMATION DISTRIBUTION SOLUTION PACKAGE ---

Designed for manufacturers and distributors of complex industrial products
that want to use the World Wide Web to distribute product information such
as catalogs, drawings, specifications, maintenance notices, etc. to their
OEM customers, dealers, and end-users, this package combines the power of
Digital's AlphaServer systems with features such as rackmount design,
clustering, and extensive consulting services to create an
industrial-strength Web server for mission- critical applications.

With prices ranging from $60,500 on the low-end solution to $218,100 on the
high-end solution, this package is available worldwide and - depending on
customer needs - could include: Digital's AlphaServer 400 or the
rackmounted AlphaServer 1000 system; bundled Internet search and retrieval
software such as FTP, Gopher and WAIS; optional Web publishing software;
and a wide range of custom consulting, design and implementation services
from Digital.

Information Distribution Solution Customer Comment: "Toys R Us has recently
implemented a Web site based upon Digital's AlphaServer and systems
integration services. We are very pleased with the traffic that has been
associated with the site, and equally pleased with the support which
Digital has provided to us during the implementation," said Matt Lombardi,
Vice President of Information Technology, Toys R Us, Rochelle Park, New
Jersey).

INTERNET COLLABORATION SOLUTION PACKAGE ---

Designed for users interested in workgroup collaboration, this package
allows customers, partners, and suppliers to share information, notes
files, discussion groups, and other collaborative efforts seamlessly
across internal (Intranet) and external (Internet) networks.

With prices ranging from $55,100 on the low-end solution to $69,630 on the
high-end solution, this package is available worldwide and - depending on
customer needs - could include: Digital's AlphaServer system and Workgroup
Web Forum software; optional use of Digital's tunneling products; other
publicly available software; and custom services from Digital such as
consulting and training.

Collaboration Solution Customer Comment: "Xerox is continually seeking ways
of enhancing the effectiveness of our work teams. Since today's trend is
for those work teams to be scattered across the country or around the
world, and to involve universities and other companies, we are especially
interested in using the Internet and World Wide Web to enable close
information sharing and collaboration. Digital's Collaboration Solution
was the only system that came close to our needs.

The combination of Digital's Workgroup Web Forum software and video-ready
Alpha workstations with Xerox Liveboards allowed us to reap the benefits
of Web-based remote collaboration. Our teams are delighted by their
ability to share information, hold discussions and work effectively with
their colleagues inside and outside of Xerox in a secure manner using the
ubiquitous and convenient medium of the Internet," said Dr. Gregory Zack,
Manager, Design Research Institute, Joseph P. Wilson Center for Research
and Technology, Xerox Corporation, Ithaca, New York.

INTERNET MERCHANT SOLUTION PACKAGE ---

Designed for customers that want to operate an electronic storefront to
trade goods or services and accept orders and credit-card payments over
the Internet, this package is based on a software product and architecture
from Digital partner, Open Market, Inc. of Cambridge, Massachusetts, a
leading provider of business software for the Internet. Features of this
package include the handling of financial transactions, order taking and
payments, credit card transactions, sales tax processing, and other
purchasing and distribution tasks over the Internet.

With prices ranging from $95,790 on the low-end solution to $160,400 on the
high-end solution, this package is currently available in the United
States only and - depending on customer needs - could include: Digital's
AlphaServer 400 or the rackmounted AlphaServer 1000 system; Open Market's
Merchant Solution software; and custom Internet services from Digital.

Merchant Solution Customer Comment: "Open Market's business software for
the Internet has enabled us to turn the Internet into an effective
business tool by broadening our reach to small businesses. Through our
Small Business Service, companies can browse through our wealth of
resources and purchase articles on an as-needed basis. This gives small
businesses access to vital information for a fraction of the traditional
cost," said Patrick Toner, Director of Distribution Programs, LEXIS-NEXIS,
Dayton, Ohio.

"Our goal is to make it easy for our customers to reap the benefits of
doing business on the Internet by offering these unique,
industrial-strength Internet Solution Packages," said Rose Ann Giordano,
Vice President of Digital's Internet Business Group.

"While all other vendors in this marketplace are still focused on selling
individual components or services, Digital is the only vendor that has put
together customizable, integrated solution packages for the ever-expanding
range of businesses and organizations now using the Internet. They provide
tremendous operational benefits for Internet customers," she added.

Digital Equipment Corporation is the world's leader in open client/server
solutions from personal computing to integrated worldwide information
systems. Digital's scalable Alpha platforms, storage, networking, software
and services, together with industry- focused solutions from business
partners, help organizations compete and win in today's global
