Compuware Introduces First Fault Management Products for Client/Server

Comprehensive Fault Management Solution Enables Rapid Problem Resolution in
Today's Distributed Client/Server Environments

FARMINGTON HILLS, MICH., FEBRUARY 5, 1996 -- Compuware Corporation (NASDAQ:
CPWR) today announced the availability of client/server fault management
products that will automatically detect the occurrence of application
faults and enable their resolution. Compuware's new Fault-XPERT products
help information technology organizations by providing a single view of
faults that occur in business-critical client/server applications.

In these complex distributed environments, faults can take the form of
abends, access violations, application deadlocks, data exceptions, error
signals, storage overlays, storage violations, segmentation violations or
transaction errors. The Fault-XPERT line proactively alerts staff to these
conditions and then assists them in fault prioritization and resolution.

"Compuware's Fault-XPERT products for client/server automate the process of
fault detection and resolution," said Bern Trompeter, General Manager,
Fault Diagnosis Products. "Fault-XPERT helps support staff gather critical
information on which applications fail, how often and under what
conditions. In addition, Fault-XPERT's diagnostics eliminate the need to
duplicate failure conditions in multi-tasking operating systems."

Integration with industry standard tools Compuware fault management
products will interface with Compuware's EcoTOOLS, EcoNET and
RemoteControl/2 systems management products as well as IBM NetView and HP
OpenView. Using exclusive event messaging technology, Fault-XPERT sends
information on application fault activity to these systems management
tools, enabling systems managers to rapidly identify application
failures.

Fault management history

The Fault-XPERT line joins Compuware Abend-AID, the industry standard and
most widely used product for the diagnosis of mainframe application and
transaction failures. Abend-AID operates across a variety of operating
environments, databases and programming languages. "The need for
client/server fault management tools should be obvious to anyone who has
worked on mature platforms," said experienced Abend-AID and current
Fault-XPERT user Bob Bidner, Senior Information Systems Consultant at
Canada Trust. "There is significant cost to any company extending into
client/server environments that suffers outages. If your only way of
handling problem resolution is through slow and tedious exception
handlers, there will be lots of downtime to swallow--and lots of costs. We
don't want to spend our time fixing faults."

Pricing and availability

The Fault-XPERT workbench for help desk personnel, application support
staff or developers is $2,000.00 per workstation. The Fault-XPERT's fault
agent that detects application failures at each user workstation is
$165.00 per copy.

Fault-XPERT for OS/2 is shipping now. Fault-XPERT for HP-UX and Fault-
XPERT for AIX are planned for first quarter `96 availability. Fault- XPERT
for various Microsoft Windows operating systems is planned for third
quarter `96 availability.
