Compaq Rolls Out Internet Server Capability Across Entire Server Line --
Leading Web Server Software for Key OS Environments Included With the
Purchase of Every Compaq Server

HOUSTON, February 13, 1996 -- Compaq Computer Corporation (NYSE:CPQ) today
announced that every Compaq server will ship with Internet server
capabilities. Compaq plans to include Microsoft Internet Information
Server, Netscape Commerce Server and Novell NetWare Web Server in every
server shipment, becoming the only supplier to deliver Internet server
functionality as a standard platform feature.

Working closely with key software partners, Compaq is delivering Internet
server functionality for the leading operating system environments. With
all ProLiant and ProSignia models, Compaq will include CD-based copies of
Microsoft Internet Information Server, Netscape Commerce Server, and
Novell NetWare Web Server. By providing Internet server capabilities on
all its platforms -- from the ProSignia 300 to the ProLiant 4500 -- Compaq
is able to meet the needs of a variety of customers, from small businesses
and workgroups, to enterprise-wide application environments.

Web server software enables customers to create and manage Web sites for
both external Internet and Intranet applications in a distributed
enterprise environment. The three industry-standard Web server software
products, shipped with Compaq's award-winning server platforms, provide
customers with the industry's most comprehensive, one-stop solution for
Internet server applications.

"Leveraging the power of the Internet is fast becoming an absolute must for
conducting business in the 90s," said Gary Stimac, senior vice president
and general manager, Compaq's Systems Division. "We are making it possible
for companies of every size to access and leverage that power by providing
Internet server software as a standard feature on every server in our
line. We believe customers want the flexibility to choose the best
solution which meets their needs. Our industry-leading, high-availability
platforms, combined with these leading Web server software solutions, give
customers that choice. No other company offers such a full range of
reliable, cost-effective Internet server platforms."

LEADING PLATFORMS FOR INTERNET SERVER APPLICATIONS

The Compaq ProLiant and Compaq ProSignia families of servers offer
customers industry-leading platforms that have already proven themselves
to be superior file/print and application servers. Internet and Intranet
servers based on Compaq platforms will enjoy the same innovative,
reliable, high-availability, and high-performance features which
characterize all Compaq servers.

In addition to being the first in the industry to include a single- server
license for the leading Web server software programs, other Compaq
innovations, such as Compaq SmartStart and Compaq Insight Manager lower
the overall cost of ownership for Compaq platforms while making them
easier-to-own, easier-to-deploy, and easier-to-manage. Compaq SmartStart
is the Compaq integration tool that optimizes platform configurations and
simplifies the installation of tested and reliable servers. SmartStart
will increase Internet server performance by optimizing key operating
system parameters for the Compaq platform, while ensuring a stable,
reliable, well-integrated platform configuration. Compaq Insight Manager
is the Compaq application for managing network desktops and servers.
Insight Manager reduces administrative costs and increases up-time by
providing in-depth insight into server functions, allowing efficient and
effective management of Compaq Internet servers. Compaq also offers
innovative service and support programs designed to meet the needs of
customers deploying Internet applications on a global, regional or local
basis.

For customers who require a high-availability Internet server, Compaq
offers its Recovery Server options. The Standby and On-Line Recovery
Server options give customers high-availability platforms at very
aggressive prices. These options permit one Compaq server to act as a
backup to another. Compaq supports NetWare and Windows NT Server on both
Recovery Server options and all Compaq servers take advantage of this
technology. In fact, customers can mix and match ProLiant and ProSignia
platforms when deploying such a solution.

For Internet and Intranet servers which require outstanding data
availability, the Compaq SMART-2 Array Controller -- representing the
fifth generation of Compaq drive array technology -- increases LAN data
availability and enhances LAN storage management capabilities through the
On-line Capacity Expansion feature and the Compaq Array Configuration
Utility. A significant breakthrough in fault-tolerant storage management,
the On-line Capacity Expansion feature of the SMART-2 Array Controller
supports hot-pluggable drives and allows network administrators to expand
network storage while the system remains operational.

INDUSTRY-LEADING WEB SERVER SOFTWARE TODAY

The Microsoft Internet Information Server is the only Web server designed
specifically for Windows NT Server. As a result it delivers the highest
performance possible on Windows NT Server, while providing tight
integration with its management and security features. Microsoft IIS also
supports all important Internet standards including SSL for secure
communications. And because it is integrated with the BackOffice family,
IIS is the most powerful way to put business applications on your Intranet
or to do business on the Internet.

Netscape Commerce Server is a high-performance server software product for
conducting encrypted communications and electronic commerce on the
Internet and internal corporate networks, or Intranets. Netscape Commerce
Server enables users to publish hypermedia documents over the Internet
using the HyperText Transport Protocol (HTTP). Netscape Commerce Server
will be integrated and optimized on Compaq server platforms via SmartStart
release 2.50A. Future Netscape products will be directly
SmartStart-enabled.

Novell NetWare Web Server is a leading software program for conducting
communication and commerce over the Internet within NetWare 4.1 or NetWare
4.1 SMP environments. It incorporates a Windows-based graphical user
interface for publishing Internet documents, a single user license of the
WordPerfect Internet Publisher, which automatically converts WordPerfect
documents into HyperText Mark-Up Language (HTML), the language of the
World Wide Web, and also includes a copy of the Netscape

Navigator to view the newly created HTML documents.
