CONNECTWARE INTRODUCES 3-IN-1 MULTIMEDIA ACCELERATOR AND TV TUNER

-- Based On The Brooktree BtV MediaStream Chipset, RasterMedia Combines
Graphics, Video and Sound Onto A Single PCI Board --

RICHARDSON, Texas, January 8, 1996 - Setting a new standard in multimedia
communications and advanced networking technologies, Connectware, Inc., an
AMP company, today introduced RasterMedia, a 2 MB VRAM multimedia
accelerator that integrates three functions onto a single PCI board, a
combination that has to date required multiple boards. Connectware also
introduced RasterMedia Tuner, a companion board that offers TV tuner
capability.

"With RasterMedia and RasterMedia Tuner, Connectware has defined a new
category of multimedia accelerators," explained Tim Sullivan, President
and CEO of Connectware. "These products leverage the company's high-end
performance video and imaging solutions previously developed for Sun and
UNIX environments, enabling home and business PC users to now access this
technology at the desktop."

The RasterMedia accelerator card integrates high-quality video playback,
high-performance graphics acceleration, and industry-standard audio,
including wavetable synthesis onto a single, half-size board. This
sophisticated VRAM-based combination exceeds the performance of 64-bit
DRAM graphics accelerators.

The RasterMedia accelerator card provides all the functionality that the
entertainment and business multimedia markets require. RasterMedia Tuner
enables live video input with on-screen remote control.

The RasterMedia card provides full-motion video playback under MS Video for
Windows. It accelerates up to two native format 30 frames per second 320 x
240 VfW sessions with bilinear interpolation for scaling to window size.
In addition, the MediaMatics MPEG decoder, supplied with RasterMedia,
provides MPEG video playback at 30 frames/second on a Pentium (90 MHz or
higher) processor. The RasterMedia unique video acceleration feature of
chroma-keying provides the ability to overlay a video sources on top of a
graphics display.

Using the latest in Windows accelerator technology, RasterMedia features a
full range of pixel formats and pixel depths from 640x480x32 through
1024x768x16 and 1280x1024x8 @ 75 Hz.

The RasterMedia accelerator card allows graphics and video data to reside
separately in its own color space, which offers several key benefits:
First, since the graphics buffer does not need to conform to the color
depth of the video buffer, the use of memory space is more efficient.
Also, higher video quality can be maintained even when graphics are
operating in pseudo-color modes.

The RasterMedia audio features provide a local bus stereo audio solution
that closely integrates the audio system to the video and graphics system.
Coupling the audio to the graphics and video system with unified software
also facilitates full lip synchronization. Accurate full lip
synchronization is especially important when video playback performance is
at 30 frames/second. The RasterMedia audio features allow simultaneous
play of two .WAV files, simultaneous full duplex playback and record, as
well as full stereo audio I/O capability.

The RasterMedia accelerator card includes a sophisticated suite of software
components, including a CD player, audio mixer, wave file recorder and an
exclusive media rack for stacking components. "These software components
incorporate professionally-designed user interfaces that are both visually
pleasing and easy to use," said Michael Dagate, Lead Software Engineer at
Connectware.

In addition to state-of-the art graphics, video and audio drivers,
RasterMedia supports DCI in Windows 3.1 and the DirectX interfaces in
Windows 95. The Mediamatics MPEG decoder, supplied with the product,
provides MPEG video playback for viewing MPEG files, as well as CDi movies
and VideoCD titles. RasterMedia is also compliant with MPC 3 hardware
specifications which will run all the new MPC 3 games and other multimedia
software.

The one-megabyte and two-megabyte versions of the RasterMedia accelerator
card and the RasterMedia Tuner will be available February 1996. The
RasterMedia card is priced at $399.00 for the one-megabyte version and
$499.00 for the two-megabyte version. The RasterMedia Tuner is listed at
$149.00. A four-megabyte version of the RasterMedia card will be available
later this year. Customers may call Connectware at 1-800-357-0852 or
214-997-4111 to request more information.
