TOP MARKETING EXECUTIVE JOINS COMPUSERVE

CompuServe Appoints Cynthia A. Vahlkamp Senior Vice President Marketing for
Online Services

COLUMBUS, OHIO -- February 19, 1996  CompuServe Incorporated today
announced that Cynthia A. Vahlkamp has been appointed senior vice
president marketing for online services effective immediately. As chief
marketing strategist, Ms. Vahlkamp will focus on developing and
implementing the global CompuServe branding strategy to grow the company's
online services business, said Robert J. Massey, CompuServe president and
chief executive officer. Ms. Vahlkamp will report to Mr. Massey until the
company appoints a president of CompuServe's online services division.

"Ms. Vahlkamp brings to CompuServe a unique blend of consumer marketing,
international and entrepreneurial management skills," Mr. Massey said.
"This expertise is needed as we continue to expand our presence in Europe
and the rest of the world. Her track record in marketing and finance is
especially useful as our subscriber base continues to expand into the mass
market."

Before joining CompuServe, Ms. Vahlkamp spent nine years with the Quaker
Oats Company. Most recently, she directed the strategic reassessment and
relaunch of Pritikin Systems, Inc., a Quaker Oats wholly-owned subsidiary
that specializes in health foods and behavior modifications programs. In
her position as general manager, she led her team to a 260 percent
increase in lead market sales, exceeding their profit plan for eight
consecutive quarters. She also lead a European venture for Quaker Oats
cereals in Europe. Ms. Vahlkamp's early career included numerous positions
with General Foods in White Plains, N.Y. She began her career as a
management consultant with SRI International in Menlo Park, Calif.

Ms. Vahlkamp is a graduate of the University of California, Berkeley, with
degrees in economics and Chinese. She earned her master's degree in public
and international affairs from Princeton University's Woodrow Wilson
School, concentrating in economics and management. She also was a research
associate in the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.

Ms. Vahlkamp will be located at CompuServe's world headquarters in
Columbus, Ohio.
