CA FIRST TO REMOVE DATABASE PRICING OBSTACLES TO ELECTRONIC COMMERCE

Bases CA-OpenIngres/ICE Price on Server Power Instead of Unmanageable Usage
Numbers

ISLANDIA, N.Y., February 14, 1996-- Computer Associates today became the
first software company to base Internet database license fees on server
processing capacity, instead of the number of users. The schedule will
enable companies to deploy Internet commerce applications without fear of
incurring hidden costs.

In announcing new pricing for its new CA-OpenIngres/ICE (Internet Commerce
Enabled) information management solution, CA created a unique model for
Internet software licensing fees. This model is designed to more closely
follow the source of the product's business benefit -- the amount of
processing a company can handle on its server.

"The Internet opens new worlds to business, but requires new business
models," said Richard Chiarello, CA senior vice president of sales. "The
number of hits on the Web server has no relevance to the amount of work
performed. Our customers clearly prefer a tangible gauge based on the Web
server's capacity over the notion of user counts."

CA-OpenIngres/ICE provides the foundation for Internet-based electronic
commerce by delivering a high-performance Web-centric database that allows
users to quickly and easily build Web pages with corporate data and deploy
database Web applications. The dynamic nature of Internet access requires
a database to adapt to unpredictable and dramatic loads. CA-
OpenIngres/ICE's adaptive query management allows maximum performance to
be reached without having to predict loads.

"With today's announcement, we are giving our clients the freedom to
aggressively pursue Internet business without traditional licensing
barriers," said Yogesh Gupta, CA senior vice president of product
strategy.

The CA-OpenIngres/ICE information management system is available for many
popular platforms. Sample prices include:

   Windows NT (Intel-based) $13,000
   Sun SPARCserver 1000 $20,460
