Music Awards Show the Latest in Parade of Apple QuickTime Live! Webcasts

CUPERTINO, California-February 6, 1996-Apple Computer, Inc. has invited
tens of millions of cyber surfers around the world to attend this year's
GRAMMY Awards-online. The company today announced that it will present
live, interactive coverage of the 38th annual GRAMMY Awards on the
Internet. The GRAMMY Awards ceremony-to be hosted by the National Academy
of Recording Arts & Sciences (NARAS) on February 28, 1996-is the biggest
music awards event in the world, bringing together thousands of creative
and technical professionals in the recording industry from all over the
world to celebrate excellence in music. This year's nominees include
Michael Jackson, Pearl Jam, Mariah Carey, Alanis Morissette, Boyz II Men,
Chris Isaak, Seal, The Eagles, Joan Osborne, Madonna, TLC, Bob Dylan,
Primus, and Toni Childs.

This annual awards ceremony, which is telecast to an international audience
of more than 1 billion viewers in over 170 countries, will now be
accessible to millions more via their Apple Macintosh or Windows computer
and Apple QuickTime Live!, Apple's new virtual venue for live,
interactive, online entertainment. Apple QuickTime Live! consists of a new
World Wide Web site that features multimedia broadcasts of live
entertainment, including interviews, images, videos, sound, and QuickTime
VR-- Apple's virtual reality technology. As with past Apple QuickTime
Live! events, Apple will be using Progressive Networks' RealAudio
technology to broadcast the GRAMMY awards.

"Our new relationship with NARAS demonstrates our corporate focus on
partnering with entertainment industry leaders," said Satjiv S. Chahil,
senior vice president of corporate marketing, whose responsibilities
include entertainment, new media and Internet at Apple. "Music is the
hottest content area on the Internet and consequently we believe the
GRAMMY webcast will be the largest event in Internet history." (According
to the Yahoo! online index of World Wide Web sites, there are more
music-related Web sites than on any other topic. Recent numbers showed
9,950 music-related sites versus 4,940 sports-related sites.)

"We are thrilled to expand our previous Internet productions with the
terrific resources of Apple and its QuickTime Live!," said Rob Senn,
senior vice president and general manager of NARAS. "It was almost
inevitable that the huge importance of music on the Internet would bring
together industry leaders such as Apple and the GRAMMYS."

Beginning February 23, Apple QuickTime Live! will take you behind the
scenes during GRAMMY week in a way that only the Internet can. Live
coverage will include interviews and chats with nominees as well as audio
and video coverage of the GRAMMY rehearsals and ceremony. Custom Apple
interactive kiosks will allow GRAMMY Awards attendees and artists to chat
with fans and upload images of themselves, bringing fans closer to the
artists. Throughout GRAMMY week, Internet subscribers can tune into the
Apple QuickTime Live! site for behind the scenes coverage of a number of
the VIP events, including the NARAS Foundation Tribute Concert honoring
Carlos Santana, sponsored by the Hollywood RockWalk, and the special
MusiCares 1996 Person of the Year tribute dinner and concert honoring
Quincy Jones. In addition, the Recording Academy will honor Dave Brubeck,
Marvin Gaye, Sir George Solti and Stevie Wonder with LifeTime Achievement
Awards. Net users are also invited to converse with musicians
backstage-via online chats. Information on the chats and guest schedule
will be posted on the Apple QuickTime Live! Web site. (EDITOR'S NOTE: See
1/24/96 press release on "Apple Computer Brings Spirited Conversation to
the 'Net").

Apple QuickTime Live!

Apple QuickTime Live! debuted recently at Bill Graham Presents San
Francisco New Year's Eve (SFNYE) and covered the recent 1996 Sundance Film
Festival. Apple has announced plans to use Apple QuickTime Live! in
conjunction with other events, including a preview of Touchstone Pictures'
upcoming thriller "RANSOM"--directed by Ron Howard and starring Mel
Gibson, Renee Russo, Gary Sinise, and Delroy Lindo. To join the GRAMMY
events on the Apple QuickTime Live! Web site free of charge, Macintosh or
Windows PC users can access the site at http://grammy.apple.com. Apple
recommends that visitors access this site before the festivities begin, so
that appropriate helper applications (which make Webcast participation
easier) can be collected and ready to use when the events kick off.

About the GRAMMY Awards

The GRAMMY Awards show will take place at the Shrine Auditorium in Los
Angeles, California on Wednesday, February 28, and will be telecast live
over the CBS network and overseas via satellite, from 8:00 to 11:00 p.m.
EST. Founded in 1958, the GRAMMY Awards are the recording industry's most
prestigious awards, presented annually by the Recording Academy. A
GRAMMY--a golden statuette that is a composite of early gramophones--is
awarded for artistic or technical achievement, not sales figures or chart
positions, and the winners are determined by the votes of their peers, the
voting members of the Recording Academy.

events and programs for the Internet, is credited with negotiating the
