After Iowa, Beyond New Hampshire, Presidential Candidates are
Electioneering on America Online

Now Voters Can Interview the Candidates Themselves and Debate the Issues
Online Without Pundits And Spin Doctors Manipulating the Political
Process

Vienna, VA, February 19, 1996 -- The whistle-stop campaign tour is alive
and well in this election season and America's presidential hopefuls have
added a new destination on their tours to win the hearts and minds of
voters. America Online, with over 5 million members in the United States,
has become a hub of both electioneering and reporting. But most of the
reporters aren't on the evening news, they are AOL members who are sharing
their insights into how they want their country to run.

"Americans are wary of slick campaign promises and spin doctors
manipulating the media," said Ted Leonsis, president of America Online
Services Company. "AOL is a medium that allows the individual voters to
meet the candidates, discuss the issues, and debate amongst themselves.
Interactive programming such as we'll be offering for the duration of the
1996 election is more than just news coverage, we will actually provide
activities that put the people back in the political process."

Kicking off today in anticipation of the New Hampshire Primary, AOL will
offer comprehensive election coverage at keyword: Politics.

Contributors to AOL's new Politics channel include: ABC News, ACLU, @Times,
The Atlantic Monthly, Congressional Quarterly, C-SPAN Online, The Heritage
Foundation, The Library of Congress, and Washington Week in Review.

America Online's election coverage also includes:

News From Home -- message boards where AOL members play campaign reporter
and tell us how the candidates are faring in hometowns across the U.S.

Live Chats -- Lamar Alexander made history when he announced his plans to
run for President, live on AOL, in February 1995. Since then President
Bill Clinton, Vice-President Al Gore, and former President Gerald Ford
among others have appeared online to chat with AOL members. For Decision
'96, AOL has lined up live coverage from campaign headquarters on the eve
of the New Hampshire primary, as well as a post-mortem with Gary Hart on
Wednesday, February 21st to talk about how the first primary will effect
the race. Other prominent politicians and guests will be announced on an
on-going basis.

Live, Open Political Debate -- AOL encourages open discussion between
parties on every issue surrounding the campaign. In order to foster this
type of discussion the channel will offer a regular chat schedule for
every party and special interest political group.

President '96 -- An interactive political simulation game from Crossover
Technologies and The Markle Foundation in which players take on the role
of a presidential campaign manager for one of ten fictional candidates and
shape their political platform. The game closely mirrors the electoral
processes and contains real-world and fictitious events, as well as
embarrassing political scandals, that capture all the drama, intrigue and
suspense of a real Presidential election.

Your By Line -- A place where members can contribute editorials about
current issues and the presidential campaign.

Candidates '96 -- This will be the home for profiles and stories about the
candidates and the 1996 horse race, all clickable through a fun cartoon of
the candidates jogging. Articles and analysis from some of the best
political writers. A daily poll tracks members "votes" for the candidates
over the course of the campaign.

op.ed page -- Featuring 5-7 of the country's top political columns and
op-eds everyday on our op.ed page. This may be the only op-ed page where
Peter Jennings journal will be next to William Safire's New York Times
column.

Interactive Campaign Calendar -- Where and when is the straw poll? When is
the Texas Primary? When do the candidates descend upon New York? AOL will
post a continually updated calendar that lists and informs on every
important stop on the way to the Convention.

Vote America -- A multimedia CD-ROM that has a companion site on America
Online, Vote America provides a front row seat to the most up-to-date
information on the 1996 Presidential Election, and makes it easy and fun
to understand the issues and candidates by bringing the campaign to life
through a variety of materials including interviews, video clips,
photographic images, animation and audio. Virtual Entertainment's Vote
America site on AOL is a useful and entertaining tool to help adults
become more informed voters and to educate children about the presidential
election process.

AOL makes it possible for Americans to do more than just talk to each other
about public policy -- through Decision '96, they can send email to
President Clinton, to their Senators, members of the House of
Representatives, and to the House Committtees. AOL also provides Cabinet
and Congressional phone and fax numbers.
