America Online Launches Canadian Service; Eliminates Access Surcharge

AOL Continues to Expand Globally, bringing online services to consumers
worldwide

Toronto, Canada, January 31, 1996 -- America Online, Inc. officially
launched AOL Canada, a service aimed at Canadian consumers featuring local
Canadian content, message boards, e-mail, and easy access to the Internet
through an integrated Web browser. AOL Canada joins the recently launched
AOL Germany and AOL UK services, bringing innovative interactive services
to the international market. Additionally, AOL has eliminated its current
access surcharge for those members who connect through AOLNet.

"We are excited to be offering interactive services for consumers with
localized content in Canada, and our new 28.8 kbps network in Canada will
provide fast access and excellent value to our Canadian customers," said
Steve Case, Chairman and CEO of America Online. "As we continue to expand
globally, millions of consumers around the world will be able to access
their localized AOL service as well as the AOL services available in other
countries."

Key Partners in the new service include Citytv, an internationally renowned
broadcaster and program producer based in Toronto, Canada and MuchMusic,
Canada's first national music television channel -- providing innovative
and participatory content. The Citytv/MuchMusic site on AOL has been
developed with the same progressive, leading edge, interactive,
alternative style that is their broadcast trademark. Shift Magazine,
Canada's hottest publication in media, entertainment and technology joins
AOL Canada with content of the magazine online as well as sponsored chat
sessions and message boards. Intuit, makers of the world's leading
personal finance software, Quicken, will provide access to new forms of
financial information through AOL Canada. Each copy of Quicken and
QuickTax will come bundled with a free starter kit including 10 free hours
of service from AOL Canada.

Additionally, local Canadian content is subdivided into four Channels: News
& Finance, Weather, Sports, and Media & Arts. They include top news issues
as well as business, political, sport and entertainment highlights from
Reuters. Weather reports with graphic downloads are available, and
Canadian members can access

North American weather reports on the Centigrade scale. Detailed, regional
ski reports are also online. Members can access Canadian newspapers and
magazines from the News & Finance channel where there are links to popular
publications on the Internet. Media & Arts provides culture and event
information, local artist features, and links to sites including the
Montreal Museum of Art and the Vancouver Opera. The Canadian message
boards feature topics ranging from travel, culture, arts, sports and
recreation where members can share their experience and opinions on these
and other topics.

AOL Canada offers the ability for members to interact in popular "chat"
events. Famed Canada-born "Waynes World" comedian, Mike Myers, and
comedian-actress Catharine O'Hara were online to chat with members to
celebrate the launch of AOL Canada. Each evening a hosted Canada chat will
be featured as well as chat events to be scheduled with popular Canadian
personalities from sports, entertainment, news and politics.

A widespread marketing effort throughout the country includes free trial
copies of AOL Canada distributed through direct mail campaigns targeted to
consumers who own personal computers and modems. Television ads will air
on MuchMusic, Citytv, and CKVR, and AOL disks will be bundled with Shift
magazine and all Quicken and QuickTax products in the Canadian channels.

Canadian subscribers will have access to the content offered on the German,
UK, and US-based America Online service. All worldwide AOL subscribers
have access to the full Canadian service, Keyword: Canada.

AOL is available in AOLnet cities for US $9.95 a month for 5 hours. Each
additional hour is US $2.95. Canadians can access AOL via AOLnet in the
following 18 Canadian cities: Calgary, Edmonton, Halifax, Hamilton,
Kitchener, London, Montreal, Ottawa, Oshawa, Quebec City, Regina,
Saskatoon, St. Catharines, Toronto, Vancouver, Victoria, Windsor,
Winnipeg. There is no additional surcharge for AOL Canada subscribers
using AOLNet. For those members that do not live within a local calling
area of the AOLnet network, the new 800 service (1-800-318-2265) provides
high speed 28,000bps access anywhere in Canada for a modest surcharge.
