DOCUMENTUM ACCELERA TRANSFORMS THE WORLD WIDE WEB (WWW) INTO A
BUSINESS-CRITICAL INFORMATION PLATFORM

PLEASANTON, CA, January 22, 1996-Documentum Inc. today announced Accelera
-- a new approach to managing business-critical information through the
World Wide Web. Accelera transforms the Web into a strategic business
resource by managing the thousands of documents and millions of pages that
exist in a company, which had previously been unavailable to the expanding
number of Web users. Accelera provides global access with timely and
personalized delivery of business-critical information to both Intranet
and Internet users. The Documentum solution allows organizations to deploy
out-of-the-box or customized document applications that depend on dynamic
information. Through standard Web browsers, users can navigate and query
the Documentum Docbase (Documentum's document repository), and view
business-critical documents. They can also participate in pre-defined
workflows, and receive notification changes in documents and workflows-all
within the context of a company's own business rules and practices.

Historically, Web users often have been confined to static, outdated
information and in many companies, the Web site has been limited to a
manually maintained bulletin board. Documentum Accelera is designed to
enable companies to realize the full value of the Web by communicating
ever-changing information in support of business- critical processes
through document update control, dynamic page assembly, comprehensive
object security, version tracing, embedded workflow and event
notification. Accelera delivers a powerful document management application
for accessing corporate knowledge and processes. These enhancements to Web
computing are made possible as Accelera links the Documentum Enterprise
Document Management System (EDMS) with standard Web servers and browsers.

"With Accelera, organizations can gain greater value from the Web by
managing critical corporate information and documents, while extending
robust document management capabilities to their Web sites," said Jeffrey
A. Miller, President and CEO of Documentum, Inc. "Companies will benefit
from the combined power of enterprise document management and the Web to
enable world class operations, while improving communication with partners
and customers."

"Documentum products are part of our overall information foundation
strategy to manage information objects throughout a project's design and
execution," said Frank Matthewson, IT Process Coordination Manager of
Bechtel Corporation, one of the world's largest engineering construction
firms. "Whether the information is a CAD drawing or a complex written
specification, it has relationships with other information and is
constantly in flux. We see the new Web product, Accelera, as a key piece
of our strategy that enables a large number of users to access the
specific information they need at the appropriate stage in a document's
life cycle. Through the Web, our staff engineers as well as contractors
and suppliers will all be kept up to date."

About Accelera

Accelera provides full Web access to the functionality of Documentum's
Enterprise Document Management System. This includes workflow and
distribution, session and context management, and dynamic assembly of Web
pages. In addition, users can either customize the application forms
provided or create completely new applications and custom interfaces
according the end user's specific needs.

"We analyzed Internet software tools, document management systems and other
groupware solutions," said Bill Schweitzer, at Tandem Computers.
"Documentum proved to be the solution that lets us link true enterprise
document management functionality with the Web to not only deliver
accurate information to our field and customers, but to manage the
complexities of constant changes, updates and renditions. At Tandem, it is
not just the use of a new technology, it is providing better customer
service as a fundamental differentiation for us in the market."

With Accelera, users can search, access, and view any document in a Docbase
using their familiar Web browsers.

Accelera Features

Library Services. With Accelera, Web browser users with the proper security
can search, access, and view any document in a Docbase - regardless of the
document's original format. Accelera can be configured to automatically
display a document in any format required by the business, ranging from
HTML to PDF renditions to the document's native format. Users can navigate
and browse a Docbase's cabinets and folders, and perform Docbase searches
based on attributes and/or full text of the documents. Users can also view
document attributes and content as well as other Docbase objects.

Personal Folders. Users can store frequently-used documents in personal
folders for quick and easy access.

Workflow and Distribution. Accelera enables Web browser users to launch a
workflow, to forward documents, and to return documents. This function
gives immediate access to a user's electronic in-box which contains
notifications of changes in the status of workflows and key documents, as
well as documents that have been distributed to them.

Dynamic Assembly and Delivery of Documents. Accelera assembles Docbase
documents into Web-viewable HTML forms "on the fly", transforming the Web
from a static medium to a dynamic information delivery vehicle. For
example, a customer support representative can use a Web browser to
dynamically search, retrieve, and view customer information which is
tailored specifically for the end- user and stored in a Docbase for quick
response to a customer request.

Ease of Customization. Accelera also enables developers to generate
customized Web document management applications without requiring CGI
programming, and its support of executable content such as Sun's Java
"applets" enables developers to tailor information delivery to specific
user needs.

Customers that utilize the full Documentum family of products including
Accelera can leverage document management capability with check-in,
check-out, content modification, configuration management, complex
workflow, and compound document management as well as document
distribution through the Web and other enterprise applications such as
Lotus Notes and SAP's R/3.

"Documentum has raised the bar for document management to the level of
enterprise-wide virtual object repositories," said Jim Bair, Gartner Group
analyst. "Document management using Internet technology is mandatory for
Enterprise Wide Webs (EWW)."

Pricing and Availability

Accelera is scheduled to be available in March, 1996. Pricing of Accelera
for the Internet starts at $20,000 per server; Accelera pricing for the
Intranet will be based on volume purchases for named end users.

Accelera will integrate with HTTP servers and Web browsers from leading
vendors including Netscape, Microsoft, Sun, and Spyglass. The product
accesses the Documentum server which is available on HP/UX, Sun Solaris,
IBM AIX, and Windows NT.
