ZILOG UNVEILS A COMPETITIVELY PRICED EMULATOR FOR THE DEVELOPMENT AND
EDUCATIONAL MARKETS

Campbell, Calif.--January 8, 1996--Zilog, Inc. (NYSE:ZLG) today announced
the new low-cost S180 in-circuit emulator, designed for Z180-based design
development and debug, and as an effective tool for users of the Z180(TM)
architectures. The Z8S180 device provides serial communications for
applications such as communication ports, modems, printers, WAN cards, PC
I/O cards and wireless LANs.

"For the educational market, inexpensive feature-rich design tools are
important for students who need access to cutting edge technology to
better prepare themselves for the business environment," said Jim Magill,
vice president of the data communications division. "OEM designers require
development and debug tools that not only keep design costs down, but
significantly accelerate the design cycle."

Cost-Effective Emulator Design

The Z8S180 emulator combines the benefits of an evaluation board and many
high-end emulation capabilities for under $200.00. It does not require a
target board for initial debugging and development. The software provided
includes a debug monitor that enables users to download programs and run
with or without breakpoints. For larger applications and advanced
development, the Z8S180 emulator provides the capability to plug directly
into the Z8S180 socket of the user's target board via an emulation adapter
pod.

In-Circuit Emulation Accelerates Time-to-Market

For real-time, in-circuit emulation, the Z8S180 emulator plugs directly
into the microprocessor socket of your design. Application- specific
system-level debugging enables faster design implementation because there
is no need to write special software.

The emulator features an interactive real-time environment for emulation
and debugging. The evaluation board contains an integrated microprocessor,
a monitor program and on-board memory. A suite of software support tools
includes an assembler/linker, a C-Compiler and a simulator/debugger to
generate and debug code. Software can be assembled or compiled on a PC
host.

The Z8S180 emulator is available in volume production.
