XIONICS ANNOUNCES XIPPRINT II FOR HEWLETT-PACKARD LASERJET 5Si PRINTERS

Company Expands Its Award-Winning Network Image Printing Product Line By
Targeting the New HP 5Si and 5Si MX Market; Leverages All of the Printers'
Networking Capabilities While Printing At Rated Speeds

BURLINGTON, MASS. -- JANUARY 22, 1996 -- On the heels of its recently
announced XipPrint II award-winning network image printing solution,
Xionics Document Technologies, Inc. today announced added support for the
HP LaserJet 5Si and 5Si MX printers. XipPrint II's enhanced design fits
directly into the HP LaserJet 5Si and 5Si MX internal SIMM socket, and
allows users to accelerate the printing of image and fax documents.
According to a recent independent study by MWA Consulting, printing
documents using software applications such as IBM's Lotus Notes, Delrina's
WinFAX Pro and Watermark's Enterprise Edition, users can achieve two to
three times faster printing speeds with XipPrint II.

The HP LaserJet 5Si and 5Si MX are high-volume, 24 page-per-minute printers
designed to handle the printing needs of large networks and departments.
XipPrint II offers corporate end users an image printing solution that is
more cost-effective than a dedicated image printer. By installing the
XipPrint II network image accelerator into the SIMM socket of an HP
LaserJet 5Si or 5Si MX printer, users can print images at the rated speed
of the printer while maintaining better quality output with HP's
Resolution Enhancement technology (REt), full duplex printing, direct
network connectivity and bi-directional printer status communications.

"Our close working relationship with Hewlett-Packard enabled us to quickly
introduce and provide a network image printing acceleration solution for
HP's next generation printer," said Jim Richard, product manager for
Xionics. "The combination of the 5Si's fast text printing and XipPrint's
fast image printing establishes an unbeatable price- performance
standard," added Richard.

LEVERAGES PRINTER'S INTERNAL NETWORK CONNECTIVITY; NO EXTERNAL LAN DEVICE
REQUIRED

Unlike competitive print accelerator products which install into the
LaserJet's MIO slot, XipPrint II's innovative SIMM design for the HP 5Si
and 5Si MX printers leaves the MIO slot available for its original purpose
-- network connectivity -- eliminating the need to purchase and install an
external LAN server device.

Bi-directional communications of printer status information and error
messages are supported with the SIMM design.

USES ALL OF THE HP 5SI AND 5SI MX POWER AND FUNCTIONALITY

The new SIMM-based design allows users to access all of the LaserJet's
power and functionality. It enables HP's native REt for maximum image
quality. Full duplex image printing at full rated speed with full
error/jam recovery is also supported. XipPrint II prints TIFF JBIG -- the
most advanced file compression format -- as well as G3/G4 TIFF and PCX
files. In addition to HP LaserJet 5Si and 5Si MX , XipPrint II also
supports the HP LaserJet 4 Plus, 4M Plus, 4V, 4MV, 4Si and 4Si MX
printers.

XIONICS SET INDUSTRY STANDARD FOR ITS AWARD-WINNING IMAGE PRINT
ACCELERATION

Xionics created the market for image acceleration products for LaserJet
printers with its original product, XipPrint, which was announced over two
years ago. With XipPrint II, Xionics has introduced a new standard for
hardware image acceleration with the highly integrated and true 'plug and
play' SIMM design. XipPrint II is fully compatible with all of the fifty
plus imaging applications that support the original XipPrint product.

Right out of the gate, XipPrint II has received Editors' Choice awards from
Imaging Business and Imaging Magazine and 1995 Product-of-the- Year from
Imaging Magazine.

PRICING AND AVAILABILITY

XipPrint II for the HP 5Si and 5Si MX printers will be available from
Xionics' worldwide base of authorized distributors in February 1996 at a
suggested retail price of (USD) $795.
