Visual Edge Announces New Release of Cross-Platform Toolset

New Novice Mode Enables Fast, Easy Development Across Platforms

Montreal, CANADA, January 22, 1996 - Visual Edge Software Ltd. today
announced the availability of the Cross-Platform Toolset 2.0 (CPT 2.0). As
an add-on to UIM/X, the industry's leading GUI (Graphical User Interface)
development tool for OSF/Motif, the Cross- Platform Toolset 2.0 enables
developers to rapidly create production- quality applications for multiple
platforms. It is a major upgrade to version 1.0 of the Cross-Platform
Toolset.

Mike Foody, president of Visual Edge Software, said, "This new release will
bring users the programmability capabilities they need to build
production-quality interfaces for multiple platforms, as well as to easily
migrate their existing application GUIs across platforms. Users who are
unfamiliar with UIM/X, the CPT or application development in general, will
quickly become productive with the new novice mode, which supplies a
pre-configured subset of the most frequently used cross-platform objects.
As developers expand their knowledge, they can progress to standard CPT
and UIM/X, while fully preserving their previous work."

CPT 2.0 also includes new features such as expanded geometry management,
support for drag-and-drop and pop-up menus, paned window controls,
multi-column lists, outlines, and grid components. This "capabilities
superset" enables the creation of high-quality interfaces that make users
more productive. The program also fully supports internationalization both
within the CPT itself and for the applications developed with the tool.
The toolset, in combination with the object-oriented capabilities of UIM/X
2.9, enables users to freely integrate third-party controls - thus
creating a complete palette of GUI objects for developing
production-quality, cross-platform applications.

The CPT is packaged as an add-on to UIM/X, and is immediately available
worldwide through Visual Edge's standard distribution channels, 30 days
ARO. The suggested quantity-one list price for the CPT 2.0 is USD $2,500.
Volume discounts, support and upgrade pricing are determined by Visual
Edge's OEMs and distributors.

Key Benefits of the Cross-Platform Toolset

The CPT 2.0 is based on industry standards for Microsoft Windows and Motif,
and is fully compliant with the Object Management Group's CORBA API. This
ensures investment protection since developers are not locked into a
proprietary approach, and can therefore take advantage of the vast array
of third-party add-on products.

The Cross-Platform Toolset p; unlike emulation approaches p; is
built upon native toolkit controls so that the ported application
interface looks and behaves exactly like applications written directly to
the native GUI. As a result, the ported interfaces are: 1) polished; 2)
compliant with the target platform's style guide; and 3) thoroughly
integrated into the native environment.

The Cross-Platform Toolset p; together with UIM/X p; also helps
developers convert existing Motif interfaces to cross-platform interfaces.
Whether developers have created hand-coded Motif interfaces, UIL files or
UIM/X files, the toolset provides a number of utilities to deliver these
interfaces across platforms.
