Texas Instruments' $1 Million Challenge Gift Kicks Off Capital Campaign For
Alliance For Higher Education's Information Network

DALLAS (January 8, 1996) - Texas Instruments Incorporated announced today a
$1 million challenge gift to support an innovative education and
information network being developed by the Alliance for Higher Education.
When completed, the Alliance Information Network will link colleges and
universities, corporations, medical centers, and libraries throughout the
Metroplex to a wealth of global education and information resources.

Texas Instruments and the Alliance for Higher Education share a common
co-founder in Cecil Green. To honor their long-term contributions to
education, the new network will be named "The Cecil and Ida Green
Network." In 1965 with his personal generosity and vision, Green created
TAGER, The Association for Graduate Education and Research, a television
network which serves the education and training needs of area corporations
such as Texas Instruments. For more than 30 years, the TAGER Television
Network, as a service of the Alliance for Higher Education, has operated
as an interactive one-way video, two-way audio connection delivering
courses from area colleges and universities directly into the workplace.
The new Green Network, fully digital with a fiber optic "backbone" and
digitized TV channels, will greatly increase the capacity for educational
access and cooperative activities.

"An educated workforce is critical to the future economic development of
the Dallas/Fort Worth area as well as the future success of businesses and
people in our increasingly high-tech society," said Jerry Junkins,
chairman, president and chief executive officer of Texas Instruments
Incorporated.

"The Alliance has already shown the value of delivering convenient
educational services to employees of area corporations through three
decades of operating the TAGER system. The new Green Network will expand
the opportunities for higher education that will keep our region's
workforce vital and competitive. At TI, we see this as a good investment
in the future resources of our community," he said. Recognizing the
inherent value of convenient and cost-effective higher education for
employees, Texas Instruments is the largest corporate user of TAGER's
distance education capabilities.

During TAGER's 30 years of operation, more than 51,000 area employees have
worked on or completed advanced degrees via TAGER in the fields of
engineering, computer science and business administration. When completed,
the Green Network will deliver programming to serve an even broader sector
of business and industry including health care, telecommunications,
finance and legal fields.

Through the generosity of corporations, foundations and individuals, the
TAGER Television Network will expand from its current eight channels to
more than 20 digitized channels and will support two-way video, two-way
audio and high speed data transmission, including a fiber optic "backbone"
between Dallas and Fort Worth. TI's $1million leadership gift initiates
the campaign for the $4 million needed to complete the project.

Committed to perpetuating the vision of Cecil Green, Texas Instruments made
its $1 million gift in the form of a challenge to encourage other area
employers to invest not only in the educational future of their respective
employees and companies, but to invest in the educational future of the
region.

"The $1 million challenge gift from TI reinforces the value of the Alliance
Information Network to the educational and economic development of this
region. The planning and technical development has taken two years, but
construction will take approximately one year when funds have been
committed. We are extremely grateful for TI's generous leadership gift,"
said Allan Watson, president of the Alliance for Higher Education.
