Tektronix' PhaserLink Software Leverages Runaway Popularity of WWW Gives
Users Easy, Fast Access to Information From Standard Web Browsers

WILSONVILLE, Ore., January 8, 1996 -- Tektronix Inc. today announced
PhaserLink, the first World Wide Web-based management and support software
for color printers to provide easy, fast access to online documentation.
PhaserLink software is a standard feature in the Phaser 550, Phaser 340
and will be in future Tektronix Phaser color printers.

The simple, yet innovative solution, gives users of Tektronix' workgroup
color printers instant access to a wealth of status and configuration
information about the color printers on their networks. In addition, it
provides links to Tektronix' World Wide Web site
(www.tek.com/Color_Printers/) or any company specific internal, private
Web site for online help, technical support and documentation.

Until now, most printer manufacturers have developed proprietary network
management solutions, specific to individual printers which require
multiple separate software tools for each computer platform. By leveraging
the open standards of the Internet and the World Wide Web, Tektronix is
able to provide simple, yet powerful information access and printer
control using a standard, widely available software tool, the Web
browser.

PhaserLink software allows network and system managers to configure
printers, perform routine troubleshooting and track printer usage, all
from the convenience of their desks. By accessing the built-in links to
Tektronix' Web site, users can quickly get the latest technical
information on their printers and exchange e-mail with Tektronix'
technical support staff. Users on networks with their own private Web site
can provide a link to more specific information tailored to their
applications and environment.

By connecting its printers back to its own Website, Tektronix is the first
color printer manufacturer to fully leverage the easy information access
capabilities provided by the Internet through the World Wide Web. Users
who have the ability to connect to Websites outside their network can
access a wealth of information about their printers and other Tektronix
products and services. Web technology means that this information can be
updated instantly, giving users the ultimate one-to-one connection with
Tektronix.

In order to use PhaserLink, the printer must be connected to a network
running TCP/IP. Web browsers are readily available for nearly every
computer platform and terminal environment. Tektronix estimates that more
than half of its current customers are already equipped to employ
PhaserLink and the number is growing on a daily basis.
