Tadpole Technology Announces Industry's First 166MHz Pentium
Processor-based Notebook Computer

TADPOLE P1700 OFFERS THE INDUSTRY'S HIGHEST LEVEL OF PROCESSING POWER FOR
PERFORMANCE-CRITICAL APPLICATIONS

AUSTIN, Texas, January 15, 1996 -- Tadpole Technology Inc., the leader in
workstation-class notebook computing, today announced the Tadpole P1700,
the industry's first 166MHz Pentium notebook PC and the world's most
powerful portable PC product. The P1700 is the latest member of the
Tadpole P1000 Series of Pentium-based notebook workstations and is
targeted at workstation class applications including CAD, simulation and
modeling.

The Tadpole P1700 provides the highest level of processing performance
(166MHz Pentium) and memory capacity (up to 128MB) in an Intel notebook
today. This increase in performance enables users to carry out compute-
intensive tasks, previously only possible using desktop computers, while
in a mobile environment.

"With the introduction of the Tadpole P1700, we continue to offer the
highest levels of performance in the notebook sector. These
workstation-class systems open new applications in mobile computing for
high-end users who have traditionally been constrained by desktop
solutions," said George Grey, chief executive officer, Tadpole Technology.
"With integration support for high-end operating systems such as Windows
NT, Solaris x86, OS/2 and NeXTSTEP, these products provide a true mobile
alternative to desktop workstation PCs."

The Tadpole P1700 is designed to meet the rigorous demands of engineering
and commercial PC users in fields such as financial services, mechanical
CAD, technical training, advanced database search and retrieval and
multimedia. It is particularly ideal for PC video applications, fleet
management (GPS), GIS, portable video conferencing, telecommunications,
equipment test and maintenance and graphical presentations.

Based on Intel's new 3.3 Volt Pentium 166MHz processor, the Tadpole P1700
features 8MB-128MB of user upgradable random access memory (RAM), 256K
secondary write back cache, a 64-bit memory interface, removable 2.5"
SCSI-2 disk storage up to 1.2GB and high-bandwidth PCI local bus. The
system's 10.4-inch high-resolution internal 800x600 pixel TFT display
supports 256 colors simultaneously from a choice of 262,144. External
display support for up to 1024 x 768 in 256 colors from 256K is also
standard.

The Tadpole P1700 is offered with Windows 95 or Windows for Workgroups 3.11
preloaded. Other operating systems that run on the Tadpole P1000 Series
include Windows NT, OS/2 Warp, OS/2 Warp Connect, NeXTSTEP, Solaris x86
and Linux. Installation directions can be found on Tadpole's World Wide
Web site: http://www.tadpole.com.

The Tadpole P1700 has direct I/O ports for external mouse, external video,
parallel port, floppy disk drive and headphones. A mini-docking station
option uses a 260-pin expansion connector to provide all the direct I/O
ports and additional interfaces for SCSI, stereo audio I/O, external
keyboard and a serial port. A full docking station option (Tadpole P1000
Series) offers a range of desktop computing functionality, including
multiple mass storage options, network connectivity and add-in card
expandability.

The system includes a PCMCIA slot supporting one Type III or two Type I or
II PCMCIA cards; integrated pointing stick with three button mechanism; an
external 3.5" floppy disk drive; and an internal NiMH (Nickel Metal
Hydride) battery. An external removable hard disk drive up to 1.2GB and an
external NiCD (Nickel Cadmium) battery pack are available as options.

The system provides up to 1.5 hours typical operating time with the
internal NiMH battery pack and up to 6 hours continuous operating time
using the optional NiCD clip-on battery pack. Measuring 11.8" x 8.5" x
2.0", the magnesium alloy-cased Tadpole P1700 weighs just 7.5 pounds with
the internal battery installed.

The Tadpole P1700 continues Tadpole's policy of providing an upgrade
strategy for purchasers of Tadpole P1000 Series notebooks. This strategy
allows users to easily and cost-effectively upgrade their P1000 Series
product, preserving the investment made in these high- end
workstation-class notebooks. The Tadpole P1000 and P1300 products may be
upgraded to the P1700, and disk and RAM upgrades are also available.
