SYQUEST READIES NEW "SYJET" 1.3 GIGABYTE DRIVE FOR HIGH SPEED TAKE OFF

ADVANCED PREVIEW AND DEMONSTRATION OF SYQUEST TECHNOLOGY'S NEW CONSUMER
FRIENDLY, HIGH CAPACITY, HIGH PERFORMANCE DRIVE TAKE PLACE AT MACWORLD/SF

San Francisco, CA (January 9, 1995) -- SyQuest Technology (SYQT- NASDAQ),
world leader in removable cartridge hard drives, today announced that its
new 3.5-inch, 1.3 gigabyte SyJET drive will be available for advanced
preview to attendees of MACWORLD San Francisco. The official launch and
initial commercial shipments of the drive is currently scheduled for
second quarter 1996. Packaged in a new "slim line" design, SyJET offers
the highest capacity and performance in the 3.5-inch removable storage
marketplace. Configurations for SyJET will include an internal enhanced
IDE and external SCSI.

"This new 1.3 gigabyte unit reaches new heights," said Ronald Brown, vice
president of corporate marketing. "It dramatically advances SyQuest's 14
year lead in the removable Winchester storage arena. The SyJET out
maneuvers all other removable options, setting new standards for quality,
reliability and superior performance."

"The uses for a high capacity, high performance removable storage devices
are limitless," commented Phil Devin, vice president and Chief Analyst,
Dataquest. "Not only will SyQuest's graphic industry customers be
delighted, but an entirely new group of users will now have the ability to
easily and inexpensively expand local storage capabilities."

SPEED AND PERFORMANCE

The SyJET provides a high performance minimum sustained transfer rate of
4mb per second and an average seek time of <11msec. Drive reliability is
very high with a Mean Time Between Failure (MTBF) rate of 250,000 hours.

SyJET also provides the unique ability to go into an accelerated "mach
mode." This special tracking technique increases the minimum transfer rate
assisting refresh rates in extreme data intensive applications such as
full motion video. As a result, SyJET is the ideal choice for video
editing and storage. SyJET provides a warranty of two years for the drive
and five years for the cartridges. Cartridge shelf life is estimated at 30
years.

APPLICATIONS

SyJET is ideally suited to fill the growing need for high performance, low
cost, unlimited removable storage. High-end power users of removable
storage will find SyJET to be the consummate storage solution for
applications such as archiving, desktop publishing, imaging, music and
hard disk recording, full motion video, digital photography and
multimedia. One SyJET 1.3 gigabyte cartridge will hold 1,300 pages of
scanned text, or 10 graphic intensive games or, 7 three minute quicktime
movies.

"The SyJET is an ideal solution for CD-ROM multimedia game developers. The
ability to fit 1.3 gigabytes on one fast, compact, removable drive
cartridge is a necessity because of all the high resolution graphics and
sounds used in multimedia programs and games," said David Walls, technical
director, Wanderlust Interactive. "I also like the fact that I can load
work in progress onto a cartridge and take it home or, share the data with
a co-worker. This level of flexibility is hard to find when dealing with
files this large."

NEW "SLIM LINE" DESIGN

SyJET is an evolution of the traditional design of SyQuest drives. Based on
consumer research, SyQuest has redesigned the look and feel of the product
not only to provide a more streamlined look, but also to enhance product
usability. New features include a one touch cartridge eject button located
on the front of the drive, an electronic power button located on the side
and a see through window located on the top of the drive.

"We have taken our superior, proven technology and put it into a more
attractive, user-friendly package," commented Brown. "At the same time,
SyQuest has pushed performance to the max with SyJET."

PRICE AND AVAILABILITY

SyQuest is currently positioning SyJET to have a suggested retail price
starting as low as $499 for a drive and one cartridge. Two removable
cartridge options will be available - a 650MB cartridge priced at $64.95
and a 1.3 gigabyte cartridge priced at $94.95. This means that SyJET
offers the world's lowest cost per megabyte - $.07 per megabyte.

After SyJET is launched, it will be available through existing SyQuest
channels, including major national distributors, superstore chains, and
mail order outlets.
