Sybase Announces Technology Alliance With Persistence Software

Sybase Teams With Persistence To Provide Technology To Support Object-
Oriented Application Requirements

EMERYVILLE, CA, JANUARY 23, 1996 -- Sybase, Inc., The Enterprise
Client/Server Company, today announced a relationship with Persistence
Software, Inc., to develop software that integrates object applications
with relational databases. Persistence has developed technology that maps
C++ applications to relational databases and supports the application
coding requirements for object-oriented classes to access SQL Server
automatically. Sybase intends to leverage Persistence's C++ interface
technology to deliver middleware solutions currently anticipated to become
available starting in the first quarter of 1996.

The increased acceptance of object technology for building desktop
applications requires new strategies and tools. Using Persistence's
technology, Sybase plans to develop the solutions that MIS organizations
require to make corporate data accessible and quickly bring these new
applications on line.

"We realize that there is an increasing need among MIS groups for products
that can support object-oriented application development and respond to
rapid changes in business," said Katrina Garnett, vice president of
Distributed Objects and Connectivity, for Sybase, Inc. "Clearly,
Persistence is a leader in this market and can provide a competitive edge
for groups building critical business applications. We are very pleased to
be building on the Persistence technology to service our customers."

"We are very excited that Sybase has selected Persistence's
object-to-relational software as a business solution," said Chris Keene,
president of Persistence, Inc. "We look forward to working with Sybase to
ensure that their customers will be able to take full advantage of object
applications while leveraging their data assets."
