SONIC ANNOUNCES BRIDGE SOFTWARE FOR OPEN TRANSPORT

Sunnyvale, CA, January 29, 1996 - In a move certain to please the over
100,000 Macintosh users who currently benefit from it's popular Bridge
Series software, Sonic Systems today announced new versions which provide
support for Apple's new Network Operating System, Open Transport. These
latest additions to the Bridge Series, PowerBridge 4.0, SuperBridge 4.0
and SuperBridge TCP/IP 4.0, connect LocalTalk devices to Ethernet and Fast
Ethernet networks. Sonic also announced the release of an Open Transport
compatible version of LocalBridge, a utility which is included free with
each Sonic Ethernet and Fast Ethernet card.

The bridge software runs in the background on a host Macintosh which is
connected to Ethernet or Fast Ethernet. Connecting LocalTalk devices to
this Macintosh gives Ethernet users access to LocalTalk devices and
LocalTalk users are able to access devices on the Ethernet network, all
with no noticeable performance degradation on the host Macintosh. The
devices most commonly bridged include LocalTalk printers, such as the
LaserWriter 360 and DeskJet 855C, and slotless Macintoshes, such as
PowerBooks, which require access to Ethernet based file and mail services.
Bridged LocalTalk devices can be hidden from the rest of the network or
password protected to restrict access to authorized users only. And unlike
multi-homing, a feature of Open Transport which allows multiple network
connections, the bridge software allows all Ethernet and Fast Ethernet
users to access LocalTalk devices and vice versa.

PowerBridge 4.0 connects one LocalTalk device, while SuperBridge 4.0 allows
users to daisy chain up to ten LocalTalk devices to the LocalTalk port of
the host Macintosh and then share those devices over the entire network.
SuperBridge TCP/IP allows LocalTalk Macintoshes to access Ethernet based
TCP/IP services, such as the World Wide Web, Internet E-mail, Gopher and
FTP, a feature not available from any other software bridge product.

"With over 100,000 users, the Bridge Series products have achieved their
level of popularity because they are the easiest and most economical means
to bridge LocalTalk devices to Ethernet," said Sudhakar Ravi, Sonic's Vice
President of Engineering. "The new versions of the Bridge Series go a few
steps further than multi-homing by allowing true bridging of LocalTalk
devices to Ethernet and Fast Ethernet users."

PowerBridge 4.0 has a Suggested Retail Price of $99, SuperBridge 4.0 has a
SRP of $149 and SuperBridge/TCP 4.0 has a SRP of $249. Sonic Systems is
offering a $49 upgrade to registered owners of previous versions of the
Bridge Series.

All Sonic products are available to end-users from Authorized Apple
Dealers, MacWarehouse, MacConnection, MacZone, Graham MicroAge and GTSI.
