SONIC ANNOUNCES FAST ETHERNET PRODUCT LINE

Sunnyvale, CA, January 2, 1996 - Sonic Systems today announced the release
of an entire line of 100Base-TX Fast Ethernet cards, hubs and bridges.
With the upcoming release of Open Transport 1.1, Apple's new Network
Operating System, Mac users can take full advantage of the additional
bandwidth offered by Fast Ethernet.

Sonic's new line of Fast Ethernet cards, the EtherFE 10/100 NuBus and PCI
adapters, feature NWay technology for easy installation and automatic
configuration of the network connection to the highest possible speed.
NWay allows the EtherFE 10/100 cards to operate at either 10 Mbps or 100
Mbps speed from a single RJ-45 jack, providing the flexibility to operate
equally well in both legacy 10Base-T and emerging 100Base-TX networks.
Diagnostic LEDs provide status on activity, link integrity and network
speed. Sonic EtherFE 10/100 adapters are compatible with all popular
network protocols, such as AppleTalk, TCP/IP and Novell Netware's IPX; are
fully compliant with IEEE 802.3 10Base-T and 802.3u 100Base-TX
specifications; and are USA FCC and European CE certified.

Also announced was the FastHub/8, an eight port 100Base-TX Class II hub
which makes building Fast Ethernet networks easy and affordable. Up to two
FastHub/8 hubs can be cascaded together without a bridge for easy
expansion. The FastHub/8 has diagnostic LEDs for collision, activity, link
status and receive to help pinpoint problems.

Finally, FastBridge, a pocket sized Ethernet to Fast Ethernet bridge,
enables communication between Fast Ethernet and Ethernet networks. The
FastBridge makes it possible for users in a Fast Ethernet environment to
access resources shared in a 10 Megabit Ethernet network, such as Laser
printers, file servers, databases and E-mail, all while maintaining their
connection to the Fast Ethernet network. Installation of the FastBridge is
simply a matter of plugging 10 Megabit Ethernet into one end of the
FastBridge and Fast Ethernet into the other, there's no configuration
required or software to install.

The following chart is a summary of Suggested Retail Prices, Availability
and Part Numbers.

As networks become saturated by the content-rich multimedia files so
prevalent in today's computing environment, Fast Ethernet is becoming the
key networking technology keeping network performance high and costs low.
However, prior to the release of Open Transport 1.1, users on the
Macintosh have been unable to take full advantage of the promised speed
improvements. The latest version of Apple's new Network Operating System,
Open Transport 1.1, will address the I/O performance problems that early
adopters of Fast Ethernet encountered on the Macintosh; namely performance
that barely exceeded, and occasionally lagged behind, that of 10 Megabit
Ethernet.

"When we first started working with Fast Ethernet, we were disappointed
that the performance didn't live up to what we expected," said Sudhakar
Ravi, Sonic's Vice President of Engineering. Mr. Ravi continued, "We
discovered that the problem wasn't Fast Ethernet, but that the Mac
Operating System couldn't keep up. Now that Open Transport 1.1 will fix
this problem, Fast Ethernet is the perfect means to satisfy the networking
needs of today's most demanding Macintosh users."

All Sonic Fast Ethernet, Remote Access and Ethernet products are available
to end-users from Authorized Apple Dealers, MacWarehouse, MacConnection,
MacZone , Fry's Electronics, Graham MicroAge, Mac's Place, and GTSI.
