SoftArc Sells One Million FirstClass Licenses in 1995; User Base Now Over
Four-Million and Growing

SAN FRANCISCO, January 9, 1996-SoftArc Inc., the leading developer of
cross-platform, client/server groupware, today celebrated its four
millionth FirstClass user at MACWORLD Expo/San Francisco. SoftArc sold
over one million FirstClass user licenses during the 1995 calendar year to
reach the four million mark. According to the 10/16/95 issue of Electronic
Mail & Messaging Systems (EMMS), sales of SoftArc's FirstClass
e-mail/group communication system rose 33% in the ten month period from
March 1995 through December 1995. SoftArc aims to break the six million
target by the end of 1996.

"As the leading vendor in the Mac OS electronic messaging market, SoftArc
has brought advanced integrated e-mail and workgroup applications to
millions of users," according to Mark Levitt, senior analyst for
electronic messaging at International Data Corporation.

"In addition to keeping its flagship Mac software on the cutting edge,
SoftArc has expanded into the Windows NT market with an impressive server
product offering the same level of integrated functionality as its Mac
product. FirstClass is now even more appealing for enterprises with a
variety of messaging systems and platforms. Both Mac and PC users will
benefit from seamless cross-platform connectivity." In its first four
months on the market, the FirstClass Server for Windows NT has accounted
for 20% of SoftArc's sales.

This year marks SoftArc's first appearance at MACWORLD Expo/San Francisco.
Today, the Company begins previewing the following soon-to-be-released
enhanced FirstClass products and features for Macintosh:

* FirstClass Client 3.0 for Macintosh-New FirstClass clients for 68K and
Power Macintosh offer quoted text processing in messages; support for
multilevel "undo;" "blind carbon copy" addressing on messages; support for
Apple's new OpenTransport networking architecture; and support for
SoftArc's new cross-platform FirstClass settings format. 

* FirstClass Designer 3.0 for Macintosh-This new product, to be available
free of charge to registered owners of FirstClass servers for Macintosh,
is an all-in-one utility for easy, full-featured message form design and
other FirstClass customization. 

* FirstClass Server 3.5 for Macintosh-SoftArc will detail the next
generation FirstClass Server for Mac OS. Native versions for both 68K and
Power Macintosh CPUs will offer enhanced capacities, expanded database
access, simplified backups, OpenTransport support and network speed
improvements. As with all upgrades to FirstClass, version 3.5 will be free
to registered owners upon shipping in the second quarter of 1996. 

* Offline Replication-MACWORLD attendees can see demonstrations of new
replication technology for Macintosh that allows FirstClass users to
compose and read messages, and even participate in conferences, while
disconnected from the FirstClass Server. Detailed product information will
be available closer to product release in the second quarter of 1996.
