QUARTERDECK DEMONSTRATES WEBTALK FOR THE MACINTOSH MARKETPLACE AT MACWORLD

WebTalk Offers the Most Powerful Full Duplex Voice Chat System for Internet
Users

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF., JANUARY 10, 1996 -- AT MACWORLD -- QUARTERDECK CORP.
(NASDAQ: QDEK) DEMONSTRATED AT MACWORLD TODAY A MACINTOSH VERSION OF
WEBTALK, QUARTERDECK'S FULL DUPLEX, REAL-TIME INTERNET VOICE CHAT SYSTEM.
WEBTALK FOR THE MACINTOSH BROADENS QUARTERDECK'S FAMILY OF INTERNET
SOLUTIONS FOR THE MAC MARKET WHILE FURTHER LEVERAGING THE COMPANY'S
INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY THAT ENABLES MAC USERS TO CONDUCT REAL-TIME, TWO-WAY
CONVERSATIONS OVER THE INTERNET.

WebTalk's unique interface lets users put their e-mail and home page
addresses in their online profile, which allows WebTalk users to send them
e-mail or connect to their home page with the click of a button. WebTalk
also comes with a phone book for storing user names of frequently called
parties.

"WebTalk is a powerful tool for Internet communication, something Macintosh
users have been waiting for. Quarterdeck is committed to bringing its
innovative Internet solutions to all platforms," said Gaston Bastiaens,
President and CEO of Quarterdeck. "Our relationship with Intelligence at
Large, Inc. has enabled Quarterdeck to bring this level of sophistication
quickly to the Mac marketplace."

WebTalk for Macintosh, which includes Quarterdeck Mosaic for Macintosh,
also works with other Mac browsers to tightly integrate the Web, voice and
text chat, and e-mail. WebTalk was co-developed by Quarterdeck and key
partners Intelligence At Large and Lernout & Hauspie Speech Products.
WebTalk features user-controllable compression/decompression software,
called Codec, that allows users to reduce the voice compression as needed
to compensate for poor connections. The adjustable compression rates of
Codec will help improve voice clarity in case of line noise or data loss
over the Internet.

"We think WebTalk is an innovative yet simple-to-use tool for collaborative
computing. With the release of a Macintosh product, users will be able to
work together regardless of the system they use," said Cartwright Reed,
President and CEO of Intelligence at Large. "Quarterdeck did a superb job
of putting together the best technology available from outside sources for
WebTalk, and we're happy to have been a part of that collaboration."

Quarterdeck expects to ship WebTalk for the Macintosh in the coming months.
It requires System 7.5.1 or higher, running on any full-duplex Macintosh
or Power Macintosh and a 14.4K modem. Price and further product details
will be announced when the product ships.
